Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

Typo, congrats on getting the article published.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Wow, Kat, any butterfly at all is impressive! I've never been able to do it.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

I'm sorry for your loss, Jesse. Much love to you and your family.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

I'm so sorry, Jesse, although I am glad that her passing was quick and peaceful. Peace to your family.

I would hug you people. But am more pleased than ever that I took a public no-hugging stand at work!

Ooh, preemptive planning. Good job. I am a hugger, so I would offer in person, but it's weird at most workplaces. (Some are obviously all buddy but...)

And condolences, of course, but I'm glad for you and for her that it wasnt horrible.

Because books.

A friend of mine is applying to write for it.

So weird. It's reality! Or something.

My BIL has an aunt who is in her 90s, and has spent the last 60+ years living in a rent-controlled apartment right by Columbia. She apparently pays less than $100/month for this place. Amazing.

Wow. It's probably huge, too.

Congrats, Typo!

I am a hugger too, but I'm not on hugging terms with my co-workers. That's just how it is.

It's the place in your parents house, right Jesse? Will that make it easier to help with your dad? (I don't think I could live that close to my parents, but it was kind of shocking seeing how frail they seemed, this weekend at the family wedding. My dad has always seemed old, but my mom was a bit shocking--I hadn't seen her since she had heart surgery this spring, and dang)

I am anti-workplace-hugging. I'm not anti-hugging, but I'm not quite pro-hugging. It's like I'm hugging agnostic.

-t, thanks! It's a pretty fun stroke and safer than backstroke, where I often go sailing into lane markers.

Amy posted upthread about the Washington Post. I'm amazed that Jeff Bezos bought it. Did he buy it personally or as part of Amazon? Also, it bums me out that 100+ old newspaper sold for $500 million while 2-year-old Instagram sold for $1billion.

OH! I spent today finishing up the judging for a writing competition we had on Saturday. It's so nice when the good essays are really good. Also, it's fun to read student's writing when I'm not assessing it, but looking for that which is unusually good comparatively.
