Wash: So, two days in a hospital? That's awful. Don't you just hate doctors? Simon: Hey. Wash: I mean, present company excluded. Jayne: Let's not be excluding people. That'd be rude.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Car repairs shouldn't be too bad. The car is drivable now. Next week I have an appointment--they'll do the claim stuff and repair it and give me a rental car all at the same place. I'll just be out the $500 deductible.

Aw, man. I'm sorry so many people are having crappy days today.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Oh, no, tommy! Health ~ma to your dad! So scary.

Okay, rant not quite over yet. I'm not referring any more people to my sister. This is the third or fourth time I've sent professionals I liked over to her and had her blow up at them over some thing or another. I'm getting tired of defending her and apologizing for how difficult she is. My yard guy, who's been working for me for four years, won't even work for her anymore. She was totally involved helping me when I bought this house (I had bought a house before, all by myself), and by the closing, my realtor and the mortgage guy were ready to strangle her. She accused them of being incompetent, of trying to screw us over. It was embarrassing. She goes into every transaction with the attitude that everyone is either incompetent or malicious and she'll get screwed if she doesn't watch everything like a hawk, and every minor problem turns into a major outrage. I love my sister and I want to help her out, but I'm just done with being her go-between.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

What shrift said. I was all set to comment and there are 4-6 more things I want to say to individual people. My apologies for leaving anyone out:

Brenda, fight the good fight and good luck to you.

Tommy I hope your dad's stroke was mild and easily treatable

Salmon today and salmon forever.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Tommyrot, it's good your dad is going to the ER, because quick treatment can really prevent damage from a stroke (if it is actually a stroke). I hope everything works out well for him.

Public Service Announcement: TJ's frozen pumpkin bread pudding is OMG delicious.

You are evil. EVIL.

I support all the salmon.

TJ's frozen pumpkin bread pudding is OMG delicious.

I did not need to know this. Danger.

Tommy, good luck.

I am putting off both doing work and calling the cops/graffiti hotline. Don't wanna.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Fingers crossed for your dad, Tommy! Prompt treatment can make all the difference... and if it isn't a stroke, then they will be able to figure out what else it might be.

Zen, I think you've made the right decision. Sometimes you just have to stand to the side.

Since I'm still on cough medicine, I'm wondering if it's going to be possible for me to get to the family "holiday" gathering on Sunday. Should I worry about still being contagious, because seriously, my aunt's health can be fragile. Oy.

I bought one of those for the Thanksgiving time eating.

It didn't last very long.

I'm not sure how promptly they sent my dad to the ER. Someone noticed this morning that he was "unresponsive" and half his face was drooping, so they immediately sent him to the ER. But my sister said something about someone noticing something wrong a few days ago--dunno what exactly they saw then or why they didn't do anything at the time.

eta: I'm hoping it was a miscommunication between the nursing home and my sister, and that the unresponsiveness and drooping only started today.

Healthy boundaries! You can't change her behavior, but you can change yours.
