Nobody ever wants what I bring to the exchange, and I always end up with something weird that I either donate or toss in the trash, so I'd rather just skip the exchange and go straight to donating.
Maybe you could bring a Heifer.org goat or some other donation. It could start a trend.

I was need a place to live in NYC and prices were CRAZY and then I thought that mac and I would take 2 rooms in your apartment (not even sure if there are 2 extra rooms in your apartment), but that was the plan in my dream. I was handwaving all the animals and people having enough space.
I wish I lived closer to family. I know, minority opinion.
