Jessica, so glad you are all ok.
Calli - no way no how.
Sue, I am on Skype and have sent you a contact request.
ita, I have memory of someone I know getting a pair of red snakeskin pants with like black demarkations on the scales. We did go shopping that time I came to Detroit, didn't we?
Turkey took well longer than planned but all was delicious. I counted, and we left out four starches that our families usually serve: rolls, rice, mashed potatoes, and sweet potato and apple casserole. Like them all, but did not miss them.
ita, I used to own those pants.
time for bed in my house. tomorrow we decorate!
It felt good to have nothing planned to do all day besides meals with the family. I actually had time to sit down and draw for non-work purposes today, for the first time in weeks: [link]
So, the first major holiday since my mother's passing went relatively seamlessly: no drama (unlike last year), no food catastrophes, no shortages. In the end, I made: the rolls, the potatoes, the stuffing, and two of the pies. I bought, brined, and stuffed the turkey; supplied the wine; and cooked the veggies. My sister did all the setup and hosting, and made one of the pies and the salad. My BIL carved the turkey and did lots of cleaning.
We had 12: three siblings & my father; spouses and in-laws of my sister & brother; my adorable niece; and my climbing partner (who took all the family madness in good stride). Three pies (pumpkin, maple-walnut, and apple-cranberry), with adequate leftovers for breakfast. I came away with leftover turkey, potatoes, stuffing, and gravy -- enough for several meals, I suspect.
NOM. I hope everyone else's Thanksgiving was as tasty as mine.
Now I'm home, in sweatpants with a small glass of scotch, wishing I'd remembered to record the Muppet Thanksgiving special. Darn it.
Matt, that looks really good!
Nice, Matt!
I am so dang tired. It was a good Thanksgiving, but I'm tired. I have a fridge stuffed with leftovers too. We'll be eating leftovers for a week. I'm already planning on making turkey enchiladas for one of the meals.
We may be having another big meal on Saturday too.
Tested the brown butter salted caramel snickerdoodles in the meanwhile and holy cow!
Oo, so are they as good as they looked? I bought caramels at TJs so in theory I could bake them this weekend if I wanted.
