Never answer that question. I do like Consuela's approach.
If an organization insists on that, I think it tells you something about the culture and respect for employees. Or at least the skill level of their HR. Either way, red flags.
ETA, feel free to apply this to msbelle's question as well.

M & F all, simultaneously or in rotation, I don't care.
The only change I'd make to your answer is "commensurate". That's the bullshit word I get when I ask about a position's salary and they're just trying to see how little they can get away with paying.
I had one job application where there was a space to fill in "expected salary," and it was set up so that the system wouldn't accept anything other than a number.
This shows how often I check my tabs, but

I have seen those, yes. So damned annoying.
I'm told that failing to comply with all the requirements of a job application process, even the deeply stupid and useless ones, are a sure way to get knocked out of consideration. Argh.

I get all those chris's mixed up! Evans is Captain America, Pine is Kirk and Hemsworth is Thor?
I can't believe I forgot about Chris Pine as I was walking to the bathroom just now. I KNEW there was a 3rd Chris!
