Oh god, lisah, that's so sad.

Natter 72: We Were Unprepared for This

Ha, I was totally imagining some digital talking water cooler that creepily greets people.
This is how kickstarter projects start.
Oh lisah, that's awful.
We're currently in a debate in my family over whether we should draw names or not. I guess "not" is going to win, because at least one couple refuses to participate! And I just know one other person would buy stuff for everyone else anyway. So much for that bright idea.
We do that with middling success in my immediate family. We've finally more or less settled on the person you draw gets the "big gift", and you can do smaller stuff for everyone else.
ETA: Lisah, how awful.

Oh, that's not a bad idea. The family that does Christmas together is a weird size -- about 14 people (including kids), so it's kind of a lot to get everyone a gift, but it's not so huge that you obviously just couldn't.
omg, my boss is trying to kill me with unhelpfulness.
I explain a situation and ask for help from people - I bcc him.
He sends me back NO ANSWERS, but questions, and not questions that help resolve the issue at all.
Also? He wants to give hams to employees for the Holidays. I mean, I guess, it is food and maybe good for most people, but I am so used to being around multiple food restrictions - that REALLY? ham. I can't eat it - no one Jewish or Muslim could - no Vegetarians - no one on Sodium restrictive diet. Of course I would be the only one to object. I will just donate to a food bank, I guess.
Oh Lisah, how sad.
msbelle, any way to talk him into gift cards instead? Even for people who can eat ham, it's not everyone's taste.
I will try.
You can send me the ham, no problem.
FWIW, even The HoneyBaked Ham company sells things that are not ham, so a gift certificate there could do both things. (Although I'm sure the boss likes the idea of rolling up with a truck full of hams and handing them out like Santa.)
Very sad, lisah.
We have an everyone buys for everyone Xmas, but it's understood that little gifts are just fine for the various extended family members. Siblings too tend to get smaller gifts. It's really only the kids (my two and their two cousins) who get the big gifts. Oh! And there's a baby on Cody's side, she'll be a big gift magnet in a year or two.
