Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

I'm watching a docu on an ER in Oakland that is a a primary care facility for 250,000 individuals . We NEED to fix healthcare in this country.

Nawww.... we've got the best healthcare in the world.

I have a fashion question: How much does a given "look" for a season affect what you buy and wear? Do you find it so difficult to find the stuff you like that you don't shop or you give up and buy what's in stores?

Twice in my life. Once in the mid-eighties I wore several pair of socks when I went out to dinner with a cute boy (now my gay bestie. d'oh) and felt so stupid by the time we got to the restaurant that I left two pair in the car.

The second time was when, after my foot surgery, jeans tucked into boots were once again "in". I was thrilled. I hadn't been able to wear my boots in years and I was getting to wear them my favorite way. Why don't I just wear them that way all the time? Because I have pudgy little hobbit legs and its not particularly flattering. I felt I could get away with riding a trend so I cheerfully did, but I'm not going to be a lone wolf wearing them that way badly.

Belated catching up. Hope the neuro appointment with the douchebag goes well. And Burell, all sympathy. You are not cursed, and we love you. I'm so so sorry that you sister's illness has taken the turn it has.

Oh honey, the mentally unwell people have been in the fanbase since Game Changers was Stucky fanfiction on the internet. The calls have been coming from inside the house the whole time!

Black Fish was alternately chilling (the parts about Tilikum) and heartbreaking (the stories of the captures and separating parents and children). Regarding the former, we made a six ton serial killer.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Go, -t!

Fashion seems to be the world's way of keeping me from spending too much on clothes. There are some nice sweaters out this year, so I'll probably stock up (cable knit tunics and shawl collar, fine knits that fall low on my hips), but skinny jeans can die in a fire. They didn't flatter me as a teenager--they sure aren't gonna do me any favors at 46. The next time long, trumpet-shaped skirts come out I'll have to get a bunch. I only have one black skirt of that ilk left. There seem to be a lot of pretty flats out, so I should probably grab a few.

information libertarian

I have 5 pairs of high-end lined wool dress pants that I got for $6 each at my local resale shop. I love wide legs, and they are clearly OUT now, so while some of the waists are lower than I'd like, I am snapping everything up.

I came around to skinny jeans (I am the person whose phyisque they are actually made for), but I am completely avoiding the current "slim pants cropped at the ankle" thing. Their ankle is nowhere near my ankle, and when you are 5'11" the memory of highwater pants from your teen years dies hard.

I buy most of my clothes from old fuddy-duddy places, anyway (Lands End, Talbot's), so trending styles are not as much of an issue.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I live a mostly fashion-free existence, fueled by thrift stores. The endless search for flats that don't look sucky is my bane.

This is me. I own plenty of Lands End and LL Bean at this point.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

What I think looks good does shift with the trends, but verrrry slowly. I just now have a pair of let's say slim jeans. Definitely not skinny jeans, but closer than boot cut. And now I think they look better than the boot cut, a lot of the time. But mostly I wear non-fashion styles.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

I mostly ignore fashion ( I know, what a surprise) since most of what's fashionable is not for me. Everyday clothing is easier for me to find than special occasion stuff.

The Edith Head google doodle is surprisingly on topic for today's discussion.
