There have been a couple dozen people who died from the flu out here so far this season. I think that is what your doctor is trying to avoid.
Terrible you have such a negative reaction though.

Hubby and I are in the high-risk populations, so we get the shot. And a woman in our town died of the flu two weeks ago. So it's very bad around here. But a yearly sickfest is no fun either.
Yes flu has been very bad down here, H1N1 is what is hitting. I have known 3 people hit thus far and they were all out of commission for 2 weeks minimum. Also know about 3 people hit with pneumonia this year which is scary.
yikes, that reminds me to gently nag my husband about getting a gd flu shot! (I worry about him because he flies so much.) I get a flu shot every year and have fortunately never had a bad reaction or coincidentally gotten sick right after (knock wood).
Oh, H1N1 is horrible. I had it a few years ago. The antiviral drugs saved me from much nastiness, although I still had some nastiness.
Lots and lots of ~ma for you and the hubby, Connie.
Nice one on the interview, Hil. May a great job come out of one of these!
I think of 'heuristic' as more of a technical term than an obscure one, since I use it in my sociology writing, but I only learnt it during my studies.
I (probably) H1N1d once (had the shot, it wasn't in the shot, I was around a person who was confirmed as having it just before I got sick with the flu). It wasn't any fun.
I got my flu shot immediately upon figuring out Tom had the flue last week. I had a sore upper arm for a couple days, but I haven't gotten the flu! Which is a miracle - I seem to be picking up every bug that floats around this winter.
And Hubby's home from Day 2 of chemo. I fucking hate having to let him go through this without me next to him. How am I supposed to protect him! Grr. He said he liked having a she-wolf watching over him, it let him relax better in hospitals.
Yeah, there have been about a dozen deaths in Illinois from H1n1 this year.
How's he feeling, Connie?
