I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

I'm going to a fancy dinner out tomorrow (with beer pairings!) but I would really love a big ole pile of mashed potatoes and gravy. Hm, I'll make a mini-turkey dinner over the weekend.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Crap. I forgot I told my sister I'd bring appetizers. I was so focused on the stupid last-minute addition of sweet potato rolls, I forgot about the cheese and crackers. I don't want to shop on Thanksgiving.

Lots of stores that sell cheese and crackers are open until 11pm, or even 24 hours. At least locally to me. Different regions have different customs in this matter.

Potato rolls are common.Sweet potato rolls, not so much. If you find them they may be called sweet potato biscuits. If you can't find them, find out if your sister will be satisfied with potato rolls which you can find in most supermarkets.

Trader Joe's has sweet potato biscuits, though I can't guarantee any particular trader joe's has them and I don't even remember from past conversations if you have a TJ near you. If TJ does have it you can get the crackers and cheese there too.

Thank you, Typo, for reminding me that it's not even 9pm and I can still put on pants and go shopping. Honestly, in my mind it was like midnight.

I found the sweet potato rolls! Success. Qa'pla! Also got another pie, just in case, because with an extra young man at the table, two might not be enough. Apple, pumpkin, and blackberry should satisfy everyone.

Smart people can be stupid too

Happy thanksgiving, Americans!

I'm delurking again (I think this might be the third time since I started reading in 2005... wow I really need to work on being less shy)

All the food talk is giving me serious t-day envy, I may have to make a mini thanksgiving dinner this week.

sj, I don't have any personal experience to contribute but I've found the babycenter community (while nightmarish in places) to be a good source for that kind of info. I'm so sorry you're having such nasty side effects, hormones can be so screwy.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Hi, Helena! Thanks. I tried googling, but I was only finding the scary this will kill you side effects. So I stopped. We made it to Mom's and I'm feeling a little calmer.

Welcome, Helena.

I had a great day--hung around in the morning, made chex mix (which I am eating right now AIFG), went to meet an old friend and see his condo, then he and my BFF I'm staying with and I went to a diner place that had alcoholic milkshakes, and they make their own poptarts, and it was delicious. And then I met up with another friend and her partner and we hung out for apparently 5 hours at the same bar/restaurant (oops), and it was good times (...I probably could've left an hour or so earlier, but her partner is hella chatty and was a bit drunk, therefore would not shut up and kept ordering another beer).

Now here's hoping I drank enough water to combat the booze, and can wake up and do the race I'm supposed to, tomorrow morning!

I have not made any food other than the chex mix, but apparently WASPs eat Thanksgiving late? So the people's house we are going to had to be talked back to a 5PM dinner from 7PM, when most of us are used to more of a 2-3PM kind of thing (ie, "get up, eat brunch, cook a bit, eat Thanksgiving, sit around in a stupor for several hours until eventually you can nibble on some leftovers, go to bed") So I figure we can make the green bean casserole tomorrow afternoon.
