I can't remember who has talked about the soothing properties of coloring in a coloring book (and/or mandalas, which are more sophisticated than an Avengers coloring book). But I was at Target the other day and bought an Avengers coloring book and a box of crayons, and it is awesome.
Plus, the way a box of new crayons smells is FANTASTIC. Oh my god.

Coloring is totally fun. I think that kids who grow up to not really like it anymore were only doing it because it was more fun than, say, arithmetic, anyway. Those of us who actively liked coloring, probably still like it as grown-ups. And yes, there are ways to make it look more sophisticated and age-appropriate such as colored pencils or official art-supply pastels or whatever and designs like mandalas but... we are grown ups. If we wanna color in Avengers, or Muppets, or something else fun, we can. And then we can have ice cream for supper if we want.

I have coloring books, and colored pencils is what I prefer. I have started looking at Zentangles - which is doodling/meditation. I started it because the kind of doodles i do - fit in the idea. Some people do it as art, but some people doodle for the meditative purposes

Coloring is the best thing ever. I have inherited Sara's unused coloring books, and I have my *own* crayons and colored pencils that none of the children get to touch.
