I think, doing a quick search, over there it'd be called Tylenol 3. Vicodin has (I think) hydrocodone, of which codeine is a less refined and I assume less powerful version.

So another stressful day today. Had minor eye surgery. Well acid injected into the eye which feels like surgery to me. Under the best circumstances not fun. A little hard to juggle with taking care of a concussion patient and doing all the chores. And to make it more stressful there seemed to be a problem. (Spoiler - turned out not to be a problem in the end but took time and effort to find that out.)

After I got home from the injection, the eye in which the acid was injected was cloudy. I mean it was like seeing everything through thin milk. And this is part of a series of injections, and I had never experienced it before. So I called the clinic and they told me to definitely come back - that it absolutely had to be checked out. So I came back, and it turned out the doctor was staying past the time when she was due to leave to check this. Which on the one hand is really nice of her. I mean I gather that some ita !'s doctors can't even be bothered to keep her prescriptions up to date. But did not give me much confidence that it was nothing serious. Only it turned out that it was in fact nothing serious. Apparently the injection had resulted in a roughened surface on the eye. And is a rare (but not super rare) known side effectg that can happen with this, and heals by itself as long as the eye is kept moistened with plenty of artificial tears - which I'm supposed to do in any case after every injection. So I came home, took a nap cause I needed it. (Fortunately I had premade meals and done as many chores as possible before the operation in anticipation of not wanting to get right to work. And the extra trip and stress wore me down a bit more than expected. Than I caught up mostly on remaining chores. I have a sink full of dishes left to clean and then no more chores for the night. But I have to do them, cause if I leave them 91 year old Mom will do them concussion or no. She was going to do chores "to give me a rest", and the only way I could persuade her not to was to guilt her by telling her that if she did anything she would add seriously to my stress level. So I'll get the last done tonight and she won't face any temptation in the morning. (And how housework can be a temptation I will never understand. The doctor told her to rest, but she will do chores if not watched carefully. )

Aw, Typo, that's a rough day. I'm glad that the cloudy eye turned out to be a thing but not a big thing. I hope your mom learns to like her new lady of liesure lifestyle so she can get the rest she needs. Lots of ~ma for you both to heal.

May I ask, what is the acid injection for?

Typo, I'm so sorry. Is there anyone that can help both of you around the house, even for half a day, so you would get some rest?

Strange, how your mother is also my mother.

Buffistas, I could use some advice. Few months ago my 90 year old grandmother-replacement** (I never really had grandmothers, the woman in question is my great aunt via marriage - and she treated me much more nicely than all of my biological grandmothers and grandfathers combined) started having mental difficulties. It started with few weeks of euphoria, losing touch with the world around her (couldn't remember people and events), and for the past two months she's been mostly depressed. Her daughters say now it's OK to visit her, and we plan to do so tomorrow.

I've visited friends in some kinds of mental breakdowns and illnesses, and I've visited my elder relatives before they died. I just don't have any experience with what would be comforting/helping to an old lady whose mind is playing evil tricks on her. I fear that just visiting wouldn't be much help - she's aware of what's going on, she's an intellectual and a kickass Professor Emerita, and we all know it's heartbreaking and probably not gonna get any better.

So, any advice?

** I don't know how that sounds in English and I worried it sounds bad, but grandmother-replacement doesn't supposed to be an affront - it's just what it is. My own grandmothers weren't alive/exemplars of humanity, so she is my grandmother replacement.
