Heck, I'd have just poked my head out and asked if there was someone strong I could borrow for a couple of minutes.
Spike's Bitches 48: I Say, We Go Out There, and Kick a Little Demon Ass.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
askye, you are the Queen of Adulting for the day! Hell, maybe the week. Pretty awesome.
Is it OK for me to ask one of them to get the boxes down?
I suggest the Connie Neil Method of Acquiring Strong Men. And since the same person owns both buildings, there wouldn't be any legal or insurance problems if he were injured by the box.
I would ask, and if you feel uncomfortable about it in anyway, you could always offer to tip them for their time.
you could always offer to tip them for their time.
Or offer them a cold drink. I find that more comfortable than offering money, myself.
Well, the only cash I have is a $10 bill, which seems kind of excessive for moving two boxes.
OK, I asked the guy who seems to be in charge, and he helped me. He also looked around and commented on how many books I have.
Connie Neil Method of Acquiring Strong Men
It often results in competitions as to who should be the designated strong person. And related to the Connie Neil Method of Acquiring Tall People.
Queen of Adulting, askye, go you!
I've always adopted a baby chick expression and accosted tall fellow shoppers, in stores. "Could I borrow you for a second? Could you reach that impossibly high thing for me?" I usually get a smile. I've been known to bat my eyes and sigh, "My hero..." when I sense it will be well received. And offer to grab them something off a low shelf that they couldn't possibly see from 'way up there. People usually go away smiling. Rarely do the butterfly nets come out.
I'm constantly bothering tall people at the market to get things for me, and by "tall" I mean over 5 feet which is taller than me and means they're usually able to reach the top shelf.
The other day I went to Wal Mart (mistake) but I saw a lady on a store provided scooter using her cane to try and hook something and pull it off the top shelf. So I offered to help. I had to get on tip toes since it was all in the back but I Finaly find what she wanted.
