[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I made lunch for the next week, did some grocery shopping and laundry, and took my cat sitters out for dinner. There are three people in my apartment complex (including amyth), who step in and take car of my cat when I have to go out of town. It's great to know he's all comfy at home, with people I know and trust looking in on him.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Calli, it is wonderful you have people you can rely on like that.

I am home. G was a complete angel tonight, went to bed when I told him to and didn't complain. That kid keeps me on my toes. I'm never sure what version of him I'm going to get.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

I just woke up from a dream in which I was helping a couple of con artists prepare their scam by chewing up old fancy silverware so it could be made into a different kind of old fancy silverware that they would use to establish their identities.

Pretty sure the silverware I was chewing up had a high lead content because my brain sure feels stupider now.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

OK, a friend of mine on FB (who is a local friend, but who I don't see a lot in person lately) apparently attended a "cholo" party where they all dressed up and took pictures and so on.

Ugh. That is such a fucking problem. I can still recall vividly an ex of mine complaining bitterly about a mutual friend (white, of course) who used to dress like a cholo because he thought it looked cool. For hispanics in LA, cholos are an issue.

Kate, how is it you already have a toddler?

Isn't it funny? Even seeing her grow up in photos, it seems impossible. Kids just grow. It's amazing.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I have never actually seen all the way through

What, I don't even. My friends and I miss most of the last week of high school seeing it over and over.

I love that movie even though (especially because?) Bueller is a giant asshole.

I feel like realizing that (um, some years later) was kind of a marker of adulthood.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

Hee, that was fun. I had seen big chunks of it, but never all the way through. Loved hearing Scrappy's tagline. Did Alan Ruck and Mia Sara go on to do much else after this?

Kate, how is it you already have a toddler?

It's so strange! And it seems like the terrible twos are just around the corner. I had to put her in her first timeout today. (Also, sj, I'm sorry we didn't get to meet up while I was up in MA. This trip turned out to be a whole lot more stressful and less fun-with-friends than I was hoping.)

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Did Alan Ruck and Mia Sara go on to do much else after this?

Alan Ruck did. He's even in Speed! And lots of TV.

eta: And she's worked steadily too, mostly in TV. Huh. She was Harley Quinn on Birds of Prey.

No worries. I'm sorry to hear your trip was stressful though.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

Thanks, sj. It was fun in some ways, and I'm glad Rose got some quality time with my parents, but she also really wasn't sleeping well and she would cry whenever I left the room and it was crazy hot (and my parents don't have A/C) and we couldn't really go anywhere and coming home hasn't been super easy either. Too many transitions for her, poor kiddo. I'll be glad when M is home and we're all back in our old routine. Kinda dreading the daycare dropoff tomorrow -- she's been gone for two weeks and is still pretty clingy with me right now, so there could be a lot of tears when I leave.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

>Speaking of vaca, Zen... When we finally get on the road to Otter Lake this year (ugh, summer half over already), we were discussing taking a leisurely route including Skyline drive. This sounds like a route that may take us to your quadrant of the land. So maybe a mini F2F?

Laura, just seeing this, but YES, Skyline Drive is not far from me! MiniF2F would be great!

Pix and ND, what a mess. I hope it all works out, somehow. Dealing with banks is one of the worst stressholes possible to fall into.
