this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Hil, if you stay where you're at another year, I'd seriously consider finding another apartment. Your current one is not worth the aggravation.

Yes, this. It sounds like it's a problem for you and an energy drain you don't need.

Job~ma to you MM.

So I saw an ad for a new type of toothbrush and it's this called the Issa and it looks like this [link]

Is it just me or does that look like a vibartor? Because I keep seeing a sex toy when i look at it. And now I'm wondering if Amy Farrah Fowler would like it.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I'm not staying here another year. I've already decided that, if I don't get an academic job for next year, then I'm going to look outside academia. Probably live with my parents in the interim, until I find a job. That will give me somewhere to live, and put me near NYC, where there might actually be jobs. (It's worse than useless to try to find a non-academic job around here, unless you're in a couple of really specific fields, or want to work retail or construction or hospitality, none of which are in my skill set.)

Hil, that really sounds like it is for the best, but I hope you find a great academic job before you have to make that decision. It sounds like it would be much better for you if you are able to be in an area with great medical facilities and other amenities. Also, not having your space shoveled out is completely unacceptable. I'm sorry you have to deal with that.

MM, tons of job~ma, but I selfishly hope you find a job that lets you check in here every once in a while because I need the laughs. Do you ever write Kerfuffle Bunny anymore?

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

sj, I think it's street parking, so not quite the same thing.

It's on-street parallel parking, so there isn't one space that's specifically mine. People here do generally tend to respect that, if you shovel out the space where your car is parked, then that space is yours when you get back, but I didn't have time when I was leaving to even attempt that -- I just powered over the snowbank. It's a lot more difficult to get into a parking space that way, though, especially when there are other cars there. I think I could have done it if there were two adjacent spaces empty, and I had a bit more room to maneuver and didn't have to make so sharp a turn.

My landlord has people she hires to clear the sidewalks in front of the house after it snows, and they also clear the snow around her car. Last year, she had them clear the snow around my car, too. I can ask her if she'll do that again. They usually don't come until the afternoon, though, so that's after I've already left, if I can get out.

Sorry, I misunderstood. Is your landlord responsible for the sidewalk directly in front of where you live, they way they are here?

Yeah. Those are usually OK. Yesterday was icy, but there was really nothing that anyone could do about that -- it was warm enough in the morning that some of the snow melted, and then later in the afternoon, it pretty quickly dropped to about 15 degrees.
