Thrive to spite them

Thanks for the well wishes.

I'm trying to stay away from Dr. Google and my symptoms. Sore throat, hacking cough after I talk (Mom called this morning), head feels cold, headache, and sometimes my ears feel itchy. No fever. I can never tell if my lymph nodes are swollen but my neck kinda hurts when I press on it.

At least I'm not throwing up. Someone at work posted on Facebook he got his voice back but now he started throwing up.

At least I don't have the measles.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Whyfore is it being broadcast earlier?

Some people probably like both puppies and football and want to watch both? Animal Planet knows people will watch it all day?

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I thought the point of the Puppy Bowl was to give non-football-watchers something cute to watch as an alternative to the Super Bowl. Whyfore is it being broadcast earlier?

Don't they usually broadcast it over and over, all day?

Ah ha! Re-broadcast. That explains a thing or three.

When I was in grad school, I had an internship at Discovery Communications (which owns most of the "educational" cable channels), working on a series of math videos they were selling to schools. There was one day when I got there and everyone said, "Oh, you should have been here yesterday -- they were filming the Puppy Bowl next door, and we all went to watch." That would have been awesome.

One of the schools where I interviewed wants to see my student evaluations. I'm looking at the ones from last semester for the first time. Mostly good, a couple that say I'm boring or hard to understand, and one that says I'm a robot without feelings. (I'm pretty sure I know who that one was from.)

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

FWIW, we also asked for student evals for all our applicants. Not everyone on the committee will put the same emphasis on them, and even those who weighed them more heavily are usually looking for an overall picture, not focusing on every negative comment.

Yeah, I know. I already had one interview with them, and they asked me for the evals after that, so I know I'm already on their shortlist. (I might put in an explanation about the ones from last spring, though, where several students said I cancelled classes numerous times -- a bunch of those were when there was two feet of snow on the ground, and my town hadn't plowed yet, and the buses weren't running, but the university was still open, and then a few others were when I slipped on the ice and dislocated my knee.)

Actually, looking at it again, I don't really need to say that -- I'm sending them several semesters' worth, and the "cancelled class" ones are on the third set they'll see, so they'll realize that it's not a usual thing.

Also, the email they sent me asked if I have plans to be in the area any time soon. (It's near DC.) I don't have any plans to be there, but going there wouldn't be too difficult. How do I say that?

Hil, it's very hopeful-making that you are getting this far along in their process. In your place, about the travel question, I think I would respond "I have no set travel plans for the near future but I could make a trip to the area on [range of dates].
