Spike's Bitches 48: I Say, We Go Out There, and Kick a Little Demon Ass.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Compassionately intolerant

I love that article, Laura!

My DexH actually knew Ted Geisel but I've never heard anyone pronounce Dr. Seuss like that!

Most of the rest of them were not surprises.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

One of my cousins posted a thing on Facebook about how you should never drink Coke, because if you pour milk into Coke and let it sit for a while, then the acid in the Coke will "denature the protein in the milk" and make it into weird lumps that sink to the bottom of the bottle. And all of her friends are commenting, "Eww, that's so gross, I'm never drinking Coke again." And I'm thinking, "Are you also never having lemon juice or vinegar again? Or eating cheese?"

I had the same reaction. It's essentially just making curds and whey, right?

Right. This person first denied that milk and lemon juice will do the same thing, and then, when I countered with paneer, is now arguing something about the sugar in the Coke binding to the curds, which just makes no sense at all. And the acid in your stomach is far more acidic than Coke is. I'm trying to stop arguing -- she's just stuck on "Coke makes gross stuff happen, and so you shouldn't drink it!"

Oh, and she told me that I'm misunderstanding it, but assured me that "it's OK."

"It becomes the texture of sand!" Yes. That's ricotta.

Thrive to spite them

diet coke is just extra magic evil. Or regular coke. any kind of soda, it's slowly killing us all. Either that or the secret candida parasite epidemic the government is hiding from us.

Always Anti-fascist!

Is the implication being that it does it to your stomach? Which is weird, because sometimes it soothes mine. (I have reduced my consumption, but, dag, it seems that both sides of the spectrum team up to take any micron of pleasure out of my life. Which is the sort of bipartisan action I can live without, tbh.)

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

Fingers crossed Diane is a good fit, Askye.

My one ghost story is completely banal, but it is mine. When I was six, a friend and I were playing in the basement rec room. There was some kind of vent in the ceiling in with a ball-chain cord. While we both had our backs turned, we heard a distinctive "ka-chunk!!" sound and turned around to see it swinging back and forth.

The only other weird thing I have is that while in Peace Corps, I read all of "Girl, Interrupted" (randomly chosen from my "to read" stack) on the same day of my sister's suicide attempt . Actually, there's been other things with my sister but I don't remember them at the moment.

bonny, good luck. Will click as directed and spread word.

There was more but can't remember. So sleepy. Night, Bitches b
