You know, it's funny. We went to war never looking to come back, but it's the real world I couldn't survive.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

In Utah, 2 inches is cause for a bit of slowing on the highway, but not much, and the plows would only get involved if it was wet, heavy snow. Famous Utah fluffy powder normally blows away. 4 inches, and the plows are out, and idiots in 4x4s are passing the plows and honking. 6 inches, and supervisors will grumpily agree that you have a reason for being late to work. The schools will probably open late. 10 inches in one storm would close the schools, some businesses would adjust closing or opening times, other business would make you take PTO if you refused to drive in it.

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

I'll put it this way: when I see pictures of Minnesota, I'm still having a hard time to believe it exists.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

Aw it's beautiful. Y'oughta see it. I mean, summer is definitely the time to tour the US. But you did miss a little, not being here in the winter.

Dude, Seattle comes to a halt over 1 inch of snow. Mostly because there's a lot of hills here and no infrastructure for dealing with gifts from the Winter Demons.

The reason Minnesota only shuts down for half a day when we get 6 inches is because we not only have the infrastructure and equipment but also the plans and experience to use it all as efficiently as possible. 10 inches will shut us down for a whole day because of the volume of the snow. Two inches of snow is just a hiccup because we get at least that much, once a week or so for four or five months. one thing I hated about the weather in Teppy's corner of Ohio is how often winter storms started out as rain and then the temperature dropped. So the wet roads would freeze and then on top of that it would snow. I'd rather have the 6 inches than 1 inch over ice.

Word word word. Every year, the drivers of 4x4s have to re-learn that 4-wheel traction means shit on ice.

Dude, Seattle comes to a halt over 1 inch of snow.

DC comes to a halt when we talk about it snowing an inch.

Yesterday was mid 60s. Today, 40s but felt like 20s.

Tomorrow, 1-2 inches of snow. No talk of shut-down yet, but I'm betting it's coming.

Why isn't everyone pelting me with JOY, dammit? - Zenkitty

Steph, I was talking about you earlier today! We had a catered breakfast and one of the caterers had a semi-colon tattooed on his forearm. When I asked him about it, I told him I had a friend who's a big fan. Then I noticed the interrobang on the opposite arm and he was impressed I knew the name of it. Of course, I probably owe it to you guys that I did know it. Anyway, the liveliest part of a looong meeting for me.
