Hil, I think you should puruse this, but I don't know how academia works. If you think you'll be happier living where the other college is and happier working there it make sense to go for it.
I'll be going to Boston in November. Well, I guess Foxborough even though the work literature says Boxborough. The company is trying a new thing where instead of sending just the store managers to Market Training/Vendor shows, they are sending full time employees. I don't know if all the full timers are going or only some. But the idea is that instead of having ht managers sit through all the meetings and then go through the market training and then having to back to the store and share the info with the staff (where the managers will probably forget a bunch of stuff) - send the staff. Plus instead of thinking it's a chore the full time sales employees will think it's a treat. Maybe.
We have a choice of three days and it's drive down the day before, go to the training, then drive back that same day.
People who know about academic stuff: I just got an email from one of the schools I applied to last year, saying that they're looking to hire someone starting in January, and want to know if I'm interested.
How long is the position for? If it's a multi year position, I think that it may be worth pursuing.
Also, tell them that you're interested, but have committed to the school year where you are. If they want you, they can probably wait. I know that if this were my school, we would have just been told that someone is going on sabbatical/leaving in January and are trying to fill the spot.

Oh, lovely. The "Climate and Diversity Committee" is hosting a meeting for all us instructors. It's on Rosh Hashanah.
I don't think I'm going to say anything about it -- I wouldn't be able to attend if it were in that time slot on any other day, anyway.
The local Arts Walk and the local Arab Fest in my town (Olympia) are both on Rosh Hashanah.
Also, just had my usual "ugh" experience of going to pick up some quizzes from the printer room, and having to look at all the pro-gun signs that the guy who runs the printing stuff has on the wall next to where we pick stuff up. Including "Gun Control: Experts Agree It Works!" with pictures of Hitler and Pol Pot and a bunch of others.
Yeah, we have a neighbor with a bumper sticker that reads: "The Second Amendment: America's ORIGINAL Homeland Security!" Someone with an attitude like that, I don't want to criticize. (Plus, Northside really needs at least a couple of right-wingers to balance out all the crunchy Green Party types and the abortion-loving, latte-drinking run-of-the-mill Democrats.) (Seriously, in the last presidential election, I did feel sorry for Gun Nut Neighbor* because, in a vast sea of Obama signs, he had a Romney sign, way back behind a fence.)
*We have 2 neighbors with the same first name: the gun nut and a guy who sits on his front porch and whittles. So we have dubbed them "Gun Nut Ron" and "Whittling Ron." Not to their faces. But they're both retired, so I usually see one or both of them when I take a walk, so if I have anything to report to Tim, I have to clarify which Ron I mean, so they got descriptors attached to their names. (I haven't seen Whittling Ron in a while. I hope he's okay.)
I mostly just don't really like having to see a picture of Hitler (along with a totally wrong argument) whenever I go to pick up copies.
