I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Percoset makes my mother itch like a sonofabitch.

Sometimes the crystals you find are pretty colors, but it can be worrisome to discover your body can produce things that are turquoise. (Hubby switched to filtered water soon after, and the majority of his kidney stones went away. The local water is horribly mineralized. )

I drink filtered water, La Croix seltzer and lot of lemon juice in things. I have no idea why I got stones...

No itching so far. Vicodin and morphine make me itchy, though.

Vicodin made me itchy, but percocet doesn't. I assume it's the hydrocodone (in the vicodin) vs the oxycodone (in the percocet).

Percocet is Oxycodone?! I didn't know that. Wow. Oxy is a crazy-strong narcotic, right? My script is 5/325.

So definitely no driving, chopping veg/fruit or going out on this, right?

Percocet is oxy, yeah. I would say for a kidney stone, you don't fuck around with that kind of pain.

5/325 is the lowest dose, I think. My dad has a lot of diabetic nerve pain and neck pain, and he has an Rx for just oxycodone (no acetaminophen in it) -- the pills are 30 mg. And sometimes he takes 2. I'm fairly certain that should kill him. But he's been taking it so long, he's developed a tolerance like unto Hunter S. Thompson.

I won't lie; it does scare me, how much he takes. But he's got a lot of pain, and he's going to do what he wants to do.

Oxycodone is heavily abused, but 5 mg amounts to a fairly mild pain killer. Like so many things, the poison is in the dose. You've probably seen more news about OxyContin, which is a time-release version that people were crushing to get high. (The current formulation can't be crushed to negate the time-release feature.)

I did some research, and 2.5/325 is the lowest. But, damn, Tep, if one 5/325 makes me feel this loopy (and I have a pretty high drug tolerance) I CANNOT imagine what 30 mgs of pure Oxy would feel like.

Your poor dad. And yeah, that would scare me too.

ION I have some fierce dry mouth. And I'm drinking tons of water!

Oh, OxyContin! Yes, that's the scary-news med I was thinking of. Well, this is working for my pain, so I am happy with it.

I CANNOT imagine what 30 mgs of pure Oxy would feel like.

When I had horrible dental pain a couple of years ago, Dad was all, "I'll give you a few oxycodones for it -- you can take 2!" And I said, "Dad, when I had my back surgery -- MANY years ago -- I took 5 mg. A 30-mg pill would kill me!" That's when he said, "No, it wouldn't. Sometimes I take 2 of these before I go to bed."

I can't believe he wakes up. Jesus.

And don't get me wrong; he has pretty severe pain, and chronic pain is the devil. I think it's good that he has a doctor who takes it seriously and prescribes meds for him. But I'm still buffaloed at the amount he takes. (And that's coming from me, who's pretty damn cavalier about what I take.)
