A little nerdy, but hey, with this bunch. Was watching H2 network, a show on word origins. They were talking about how many of our words "come from the Vikings". The one I found most intersting was Bluetooth (as in how your phone talks to your car, or speakers, etc).

From wikipedia:

The word "Bluetooth" is an anglicized version of the Scandinavian Blåtand/Blåtann, (Old Norse blátǫnn) the epithet of the tenth-century king Harald Bluetooth who united dissonant Danish tribes into a single kingdom, according to a legend, introducing Christianity as well. The idea of this name was proposed in 1997 by Jim Kardach who developed a system that would allow mobile phones to communicate with computers. At the time of this proposal he was reading Frans G. Bengtsson's historical novel The Long Ships about Vikings and king Harald Bluetooth.[7][8] The implication is that Bluetooth does the same with communications protocols, uniting them into one universal standard.

I thought the B and X were a nod to the abbreviations for transmit (Tx) and receive (Rx), so it was Blue-transceive, or a BX kinda thing. Nope. Some old Viking leader's initials. Neat!

Any ~ma for my step family today would be really appreciated. My stepfather's great-aunt, J, fell into a coma today. She's been in a nursing home for a while with various health issues so this wasn't unexpected, but it is still hard for the family.

My brother came over last night. He had a sit-down with Mom and me (after she told him we already knew what was going on, sort of). Turns out his actual arrest was two and a half years ago, and he managed to keep it from us. He was in jail for 18 days for this probation violation. He said he's been group-therapizing and 12-stepping and he actually sounds like he's in a good space awareness-wise. If he can just "keep with the program", I'm cautiously optimistic for him.

I was up sick last night with an awful stomach ache for the second time in a week. I have these awful stomach aches on occasion, but not usually two in one week. I can't decide if it is a post-miscarriage hormones are fleeing my body at a rapid rate thing or something else entirely, but I'm afraid to leave the house today in case I get sick again.
