ION, I'll be getting figs in my next CSA box. We've never had figs before (literally). What does one DO with them?
When figs are in season and really ripe they're delicious eaten as is, but they are also delicious with goat cheese or blue cheese. Just slice them open, stuff them with the cheese and nom or wrap them in bacon or proscuitto after stuffing.
Figs can generally be eaten whole (raw). If the skin is thick or you dislike it you can peel it off. They taste like the inside of a fig newton.
That IS a lot of phone time. I hereby declare you may choose to speak to no one if you so desire for the next little while (or until the return calls start...)

Or run them (with goat cheese) under the broiler and when they come out, drizzle some balsamic vinegar on them. Yum. I need to get some figs of my own!

In this I'm like a 7-yr-old. I've always assumed that I don't like figs, so I've never even eaten a Fig Newton. (See also: ate my first-ever beets with my last CSA box).
Okay, marked your posts so I can further this whole "pretend to be a grownup" thing I've been working on when they get here.

The only return call I am expecting is the therapist. Everyone else has been dealt with. TCG has been looking forward to this play all season, so I would have felt sick if he had to miss it, especially since I canceled the first time we were supposed to see it because there was too much other stuff going on.
Epic, definitely try one before you try to do anything with them. You might be pleasantly surprised.
Edit: I never had beets or figs until well into adulthood, but now I love them both.
I miss fresh figs. Got some last time I was in California and got my friend K hooked on them.

Cut the figs in half. Spread a nice smear of goat cheese or chevre on each half. Wrap each half in a slice of prosciutto. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees, and roast them for about 8 to 10 minutes.
This will make your mouth very happy.
Not to be difficult, but are there any non-cheese suggestions? Lactose-intolerant here, and while I will occasionally risk it (with lactose pills), I prefer to keep as lactose free as possible.
