Hi Seska!

I went back to the doctor today for a blood pressure check, and it was 125/84. I need to go back for one more check next week, but consensus seems to be that whatever was causing the high blood pressure last week is gone.

Then I went to Best Buy and bought yet another new power cord for my MacBook Pro, because I can never seem to get these things to last more than six months. (It's always the part of the wire right behind where it connects to the computer that gets damaged. But I have to buy a whole new power supply, because it's attached. I saw a thing on Amazon for just attaching a new cord, but it requires soldering, which I don't really know how to do. I mean, I did it once in a jewelry-making class when I was about 12, but that doesn't mean I trust myself to do it right on electronics.)

You know, my doctor pooh-poohed the stress factor in my elevated BP too, and I really think that was bullshit.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I wasn't terribly surprised my BP was so high last year, since it was a stupid stressful year. But my doctor was like, well, you're married, so that stress is over, you have a new job, so that stress is over, so it's probably because you're old and you should lose weight even though that might not help.

So I, too, think it was bullshit. But OTOH, on the higher dose of BP meds, my BP isn't *low*, per se, just low for me (105/50-something).

Particularly since they've documented "white coat" blood pressure increases for people who are stressed by doctors.

I agree. I love cheese but you can always add more at the table, you can't take it away.

Which is just, imho, nature's way of saying you CAN'T have too much cheese.

"We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?"

My BP was suddenly borderline high recently. I've put on some weight in the past year, but I'm not sure it's that. Stress seems just as likely, but doctors seem to discount it.

TG and I were watching the May the 4th episode of the Big Bang Theory, and I learnt that she doesn't like Star Wars. Nine years together and I never knew that. Well, I suppose she hid it well, at least.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Seska! How are you?

My grandfather's blood pressure has been high the last few times he went, but first they make him wait an hour after his appointment time and then they tell him that the doctor won't be there and he'll be seeing the physicians assistant. So he gets angry and his blood pressure goes up. My cousin is a nurse and takes it for him at home, and it's always fine.

Good thank you! Happy to be back in London, and doing many presentations on my PhD research, which continues at a variable pace. How are you?

ME ME ME

Yeah, I wonder if I get 'white coat syndrome' too. I have issues with doctors! (It doesn't help when they take the reading a second and third time, saying "breathe... relax" all the while, which is guaranteed to make me do the opposite.)
