[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Thrive to spite them

I should be in bed since I'm opening in the morning, and I closed tonight.

There are two phone calls that were kind of over the top. One woman was mad because she bought a computer FOUR years ago and the virus protection wasn't renewed and it's all our fault. I guess she was auto renewing and then it stopped and so there was 5 months without protection and she wants 5 months free. From Best buy. Not the company that makes the software because "I've only dealt with you and you sold it to me". Yeah, well it's not our responsiblity to make sure your stuff is up to date.

And then someone called to ask about our price match policy. Okay fine.

But he wanted to "price match" an Amazon gift card. Basically he claimed to have an Amazon gift card, only he didn't want to shop with them "I only want to buy from you" but only if we'd knock $45 off the price of the item he wanted as a "price match."

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I've got an on-campus interview scheduled for April 30. I'll see what sort of feeling I get from it. (I'm pretty sure that not too many people applied for this job -- it requires having a Ph. D. in math and knowing ASL. The number of people who fit both of those requirements, and are looking for a job this year, must be minuscule.)

That sounds like a great fit, Hil.

I've wondered before whether you have any interest in higher education administration roles. Most schools are investing in programs to change gender/SES/disability inequities in STEM fields, and as a woman with a math background and ASL it might be a good fit for you if you are interested. Quite a few people do a combination of teaching and program development or management.

I hadn't thought to much about it, but I think I'd do something like that, if someone would hire me for it.

Hil, I have a friend with a PhD in, uh, Biology, I think, who is in university admin in STEM promotion, if you'd like to talk to someone who does that work. She's at a state institution in the midwest.

Let me do the math in my head a moment... Indeed that seems like a good opportunity.

Ooh, that could be good--fingers crossed, Hil!

I hate when I can feel a zit coming on but can't do anything about it. And it's in an awkward place. Grr.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Aren't zits always in an awkward place?

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

Some places are a bit more awkward (says the girl with a nostril zit).
