In other sickie news, JZ's bronchitis is finally winding down after six weeks of horrible hacking. Lots of steroids and the extra tube extension on the inhaler seem to have knocked it back.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Woke up all stuffy. CJ is also a sicky but being the mean mom I am, I sent him off to school.
The best way to wake up ever? (sarcasm font) Getting a call from KCD flipping out over the bed bugs and how come we waited so long to tell them and general FREAK OUT. Ummm, we just found out yesterday, you haven't been answering your phone so I told your wife. Yes, we had suspected a problem for a while but had no proof or confirmation until yesterday. YOU MUST CHILL.
I'm gladd JZ is feeling better. I hope all the other sicky buffistas have a quick recovery.
eep! No flu! I don't think we got Isaac vaccinated. Maybe we should do it now just to be safe.
Yeah, when I heard on the news yesterday how widespread and virulent the flu is this season, I thought that maybe I shouldn't do my default of counting on herd immunity, and maybe I should go get a flu shot.
I have mac to get his flu vaccine mist next week. They will not give me a flu shot while I am feeling poorly.
I have a 3pm appt, so there's that.
KCD can flip out all he wants - how the hell would knowing help him/change his life? crazycakes. Like you are going to keep stuff like that from him.
flea, I just saw this posted on my college alum FB page and was wondering if you were familiar with it:
On the last two lectures of Donald Kagan's "Ancient Greek History", my daily commute brain-feed these last few weeks. So sorry to have this magnificent course draw to a close. It was free on iTunes U (from the "Open Yale" course selections) if you want to check it out. Solon, Cleisthenes, Pericles, Lycurgus, Xenophon--all these and many more brought to life by this encyclopedic, humane, and witty professor. All of it poignant but relevant still 2,000 years and more later. Anyone else like this stuff?
Anybody else taking advantage of some brain stretching podcasts?
The flu is apparently brutal in Chicago this year.
Yeah, apparently a bunch of Chicago-area hospital ERs are currently overwhelmed by the volume of flu patients. Yesterday I may have said to my team, "Everybody got their flu shot, right? RIGHT?"
I didn't get a flu shot, but all the people I live with who leave the house regularly did, so I should be ok, right?
David, I don't know Kagan's podcast in particular, but he's a big figure on the field. There is a lot of excellent stuff on iTunes U (and sometimes other places like colleges' websites) that can be great for curious amateurs in a variety of fields. Ta-Nehisi Coates has linked to some great free lectures on the Civil War, for example. I worry that with MOOCs colleges will try to monetize all that.
"Everybody got their flu shot, right? RIGHT?"
Not me.
Are Osco pharmacies still offering flu shots? Because I probably should get shot....
OK, this is one of the best Oatmeals ever:
When your house is burning down, you should brush your teeth
Neatorama sez:
Matthew Inman of The Oatmeal is always funny and witty, but today he published a comic that is simply brilliant. Read about Domino, a cat from his childhood. Inman's storytelling is perfect. I won't spoil it for you. Go and read.
