"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Taking down decorations is depressing as hell.

I don't mind so much because (a) I like having the space back in the room after the tree is gone, and (b) I try to not hold on to last year and get a running start on the new year. It doesn't last long but cleaning house, and filing things and throwing out junk feels regenerative somehow.

January and February aren't my favorite months, but I try to get a little momentum shooting into them and then I s-t-r-e-t-c-h to get to Spring (and Day Light Savings Time ending) and Opening Day (baseball) and other life-affirming events.

Which may not work for everybody, but I think you've got to have a strategy to get through winter.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

I think you've got to have a strategy to get through winter.

Drinking.

Yep!

Actually, my strategy to get through this winter is indulging in elaborate neo-romantic goth fashion. Long skirts with ruffles, lace cravats, velvet everywhere. It seems to be working so far.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

In short, cravats and shots for my friends.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

my stagety for winter is hot beverages, books, and dvds. Long hours on the couch, which I just can't do when the sun is out.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

Ryan has been introduced to the world of superheroes. His favourite is Spiderman. (His best friend at childcare is a Batman aficionado, going by the artwork on his backpack.) I decided to explore the question of what a superhero means to a three year old:

"Ryan, what does Spiderman do?"
"He kills naughty spiders."

Great responsibility indeed.

I SUPPORT THIS PLAN.

Especially in AUS.

Carnival season. Drinking + fancy dress + parades = win
