That is a great start to the year, sarameg! So great to hear! Life of Riley--great grandchildren! Totes amazing.
Browser question-- do ¹ and ⊃ look different to you? Browser/OS check with versions, plz. None of you are first-timers. You know the drill.
Bonus question: what do ¹ and &sup look like?
First one, I see an exponent 1, and a set containment symbol. Second one, the exponent 1 again, and then "&sup". Firefox 17.0.1, Mac OS 10.6.8.
Different. iOS version of Safari, I suppose I can look up more detail if you need it.
Bonus question: first one looks like a footnote or exponent, second one doesn't appear to do anything.
Firefox 17.0.1
First question: Superscript 1 and something that looks like a U on its side
Bonus: Superscript 1, &sup
I see what Hil sees, Chrome 22.0.1229.94, Windows 7.
Exactly the same as Hil, also Firefox 17.0.1 on Windows XP Home Edition 5.1.

Me too. I'm on Internet Explorer 9.0.8112.16421 (the hell? Where did all those numbers come from?), Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
What Hil see. Chrome 23.0.1271.97 m on Windows XP

Same here. Safari, iPad2.
So, for reasons I'm choosing not to investigate closely, I'm watching a
Finding Bigfoot
marathon. The biologist skeptic is delightful. (Sasquatch or kid in a hoodie? Gee, which do you think is more likely?) The "investigators" keep referring to places as "squatchy".
First line: an exponent 1 and a set containment symbol (which I can name thanks to Hil).
Second line: an exponent 1 and "&sup".
