I heard that on NPR on the way in to work this morning. Rage-inducing.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I watched a few more minutes and have now fast forwarded. I am just stunned. Really, they think arming everyone will improve things. I was home sick already but now feel a lot worse.
Ugh. I don't think I can listen to that. On my way home the other night I heard an NPR piece about all the people going out and stocking up on guns and ammo in response to the Sandy Hook shooting, and my honest response was, "Wow, you people are sick."
The upsetting news conference was followed up by the moving tribute by President Obama for Daniel Inouye. Glad I fast forwarded.
Just saw on Twitter:
Can't wait for the NRA's new anti-rape campaign where everyone gets a penis.
Well clearly there would not be any rape, or robbery, or violent crime at all if we all were armed at all times. We can divert those funds that we no longer use for art or music in school and train the kids in target shooting while we are striving for a safer country.
I do not think they know what smaller government actually means. stupidheads.
I'd be up for meeting up with you Sparky, with the same crazyballs caveat as Kat gave. The holidays are NUTS!
I've done a massive purge of old toys this holiday season. DH freaks if things need to be thrown out, so I saved all the best toys and have been hoping to find a taker. Our cleaning lady has 4 kids, 3 boys and a baby girl, and so she was happy to take the Duplo blocks, toy cars, and groovy wooden castle. And I am happy to have a bit more space. Win-win!
Not that I'm expecting logic from a special interest group but it seems as if no one at the NRA is recognizing the important distinction between deterrent and prevention.
The argument that everyone should have guns suggests that criminals will think twice before putting themselves at risk. This clearly holds no water. The availability of assault rifles does not make anyone safe from assault rifles.
Whereas, no common citizens having assault rifles pretty much immediately reduces the number of gun deaths possible in any given time frame.
I don't consider myself a great thinker, by any means, but this just seems like a given to me.
PS thought I'd just add that I have many thoughts about the need for rational gun control, most of which have already been said by others so I won't bother reiterating them.
