And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Ooh, maybe after I'm done with my current Tolkien run I'll go on a L'Engle binge.

I have no brandy in the house. Do we think rum or bourbon for the eggnog loaf cake glaze?

Was Many Waters the one with Sandy and Dennis going back to Biblical times?

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Do we think rum or bourbon for the eggnog loaf cake glaze?

Either would be tasty. Rum probably moreso.

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

Was Many Waters the one with Sandy and Dennis going back to Biblical times?

Yes.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Was Many Waters the one with Sandy and Dennis going back to Biblical times?

Yes. Which I recall as being kind of weird, but I haven't read it in ages. Or I haven't read it in ages, because it's weird.

Rum.

I woke up the baby cat (aka Pumpkin aka Little Girl) by accident and she woke with the most indelicate snort. She's a hoot.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

Rum!

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

Yeah, Many Waters was pretty weird, although I liked that she gave Sandy & Denis (the otherwise "normal" Murray kids) an adventure too. I wouldn't really recommend it: I tend to believe the Wrinkle in Time series ends with A Swiftly Tilting Planet.

I really loved Ring of Endless Light and The Young Unicorns, and her journals like Summer of the Great Grandmother. L'Engle almost made me wish I were Episcopalian, you know?

Thanks for all the good wishes, folks. I really appreciate all the support from y'all--it's truly honestly made a difference this year.

I got two special birthday gifts today: my sister took my mother to her psych appointment, and spent all afternoon with my folks, and my siblings all teamed up to buy me a new bicycle.

I had given away my old road bike to my cousin's daughter last year, when she tried to ride down the Pacific coast on something with only ten gears. But my youngest brother is a bike guru, and he is building me a really nice bike with a carbon-fiber frame--it's probably much better bike than I could hope to use.

So I have a glass of wine and a picture of my new bike, and Castle on the television, which isn't too bad.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

Happiest birthday thoughts, consuela. I hope that your next year is filled with all of the wonderful things you deserve.

I have a paper set to grade before I sleep. I also have a wedge of Delice De Gourmet Cheese. Which will win out?
