Since I hit forty random gas-x for random horrible pains has definitely become an important part of my life.
How did people live, let alone survive, before air conditioning? This week I've wanted to just wander the neighborhood and assault contractors with plastic cups and a 5 gallon jug of iced water.
The dudes at my coffee cart are fasting. Every morning when I walk up to that silver box I hold my breath that they're still sweating. I know they hydrate well before sunrise and it only has to hold them until noon, but still... We had a count down until yesterday's storm. This week is going to be so much better!
My apartment building is shaped like a U with the entrance in the center and a staircase on each of the arms. There are huge windows on the staircases. Once they were open and the wind was whipping up the stairwells so hard that when I walked into my apartment the door SLAMMED behind me once I let go of the knob. My brain snapped to this crazy flash of my building before the transoms were sealed. I figure these units were pretty liveable on all but the hottest days... and on those they probably kept all the doors open.
I'm chilling in my friend's house while she has a work call. Yikes! But her baby shower yesterday was lovely, and hanging at her parents' after was hilarious. Good times.
am I the patron saint of lost/abandoned animals?
Only the lucky ones. But also, keep in mind, that I didn't call you when I had a chicken issue.
Well, the dog disappeared when I was out running my errands. Will have to ask the neighbors WTH?
Goodness, Karen Gillan shaved her head for Guardians of the Galaxy. That's one way to avoid getting stereotyped as Amy Pond.
Go, Karen Gillan! That's pretty awesome.
There's a guy been parked in a Camaro in front of my house for the last 45 minutes, with the motor running. He's not doing it to keep the A/C going, since the windows are open. And he doesn't have the radio on. I'm befuddled. (And mildly annoyed.)
Ran the dogs for an hour today. I think I'm getting slower. Don't know how this is possible.
Timelies all!
Brunch with my folks, a trip to Barnes & Noble(I gave my dad a gift card for his birthday) and grocery run. Now I relax until we go to meet Gary's mom for dinner.
I am attempting to cook all the things so my CSA does not go to waste. So far, I have cut zucchini.
I did make kohlrabi and scallion fritters yesterday, gave away 3 ears of corn, some blueberries and a pepper, and my BFF grilled the rest of my peppers, made beet greens, and cherry cobbler. I also threw away a zucchini and 2 weeks worth of peas, which is sad.
I'm trying to use up all the produce in my fridge before we go on vacation next week, and I think the zucchini may defeat me. I've already crammed as much as I could into the veg chili I'm freezing to bring up with us (all the pattypan squash went in as well), and I'm still left with more than I can handle. The kids will not eat zucchini fritters or zucchini fritattas no matter how many breathless Pinterest moms claim their recipes are foolproof.
I'm thinking zucchini muffins for the drive up and maybe just bring the rest to eat up there. If I pack them next to the frozen chili, they'll stay relatively cool even in a hot car all day.
You could always shred it and freeze it for zucchini bread or muffins at a later date.
