Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

I know my sister and parents have both (separately and together) taken trips two hours away to go to Jungle Jim's and IKEA, and make a day of it.

Dang, I can spend a whole day in either one. Well, okay, not a whole 8-hour day, but easily 3-4 hours, which is exhausting.

What are people doing this weekend?

I'm slowly and somewhat resentfully eating a salad because it's too hot for anything else. I need to pack a suitcase because I'm getting on a train after I pick up my CSA tomorrow morning so I can visit the family and go to the baptism of niece #3.

I would rather just take some ibuprofen and flop on the couch while watching cartoons and trying not to move muscles that currently hate me.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Going to a vintage French carnival on Governors Island.

Toga party tomorrow night. Because apparently we've stumbled into a college movie from the 1970s.

t edit Yeah, Hil totally wins. Vintage French carnival beats the hell out of toga party.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

I'd take either of those things though. I am going to a lego club meeting, then a hawaii thing, and then I hope to god I'll get to go to the gym tomorrow.

Speaking of 4th cousins, I had dinner with my 4th cousin once removed tonight. Except I suspect he is actually my 5th cousin, because the person he calls his mother was 56 when he was born, but the person he calls his sister was 29 and designing Broadway musicals, so I bet he was born to the "sister" out of wedlock and raised by his grandparents. (It is incredibly difficult to be thinking this and not SAY anything about it while having dinner.)

Tomorrow I am flying home to Ohio after 3 weeks away. I am hoping we can get there without Peter barfing on the plane like he did on the flight here.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

On Sunday I have plans to go look at plants and planting accessories with my mom, maybe buy some worms. Right now that seems like too much, but hopefully resting tomorrow will help with that. I have no idea why I am so tired. I've gotten gobs of sleep and really not done very much and yet I am struggling to keep my eyes open until it's time to feed the cats.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

I had to explain the cousin generations thing to a bunch of my cousins at a family party last weekend. But people there were mostly either my fourth cousin or my third cousin once removed, so it involved a bunch of drawing diagrams. Then one of the little kids looked at the diagram, and figured out what it was, and wanted to know where he was, and I told him that I'd stopped drawing his branch of the tree at his grandfather because I was just trying to explain the relations, but he didn't like that explanation, so I taped another piece of paper to the bottom to draw him in. He's my fourth cousin once removed.

And yet... somehow your spirit twin.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I'm watching the second FF4 movie, and people need to calibrate. When you say Green Lantern was bad...it was not bad like this is bad. The scale needs to clearly distinguish between laughably appalling and "what's in it for me?" So far Chris Evans' performance is barely tolerable, Ioan Gruffud is having a bad day the kind of which gives nadirs nightmares, I can't understand a thing The Thing says, and, well, Alba has mastered standing like a superhero, so she's improved since the first one.

The script (plotting, dialogue) stinks, and it looks like they blew their FX budget in the wrong place, because I'm sure Doug Jones would have looked fine with some body paint--he's got that going on. This is Catwoman bad, as opposed to Ang Lee missing the target with The Hulk.
