This girl at school? She told me that gelatin is made from ground-up cow's feet and that every time you eat Jell-O there's some cow out there limping around without any feet. But I told her that I'm sure the cow is dead before they cut its feet off, right?

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

That's basically happened - there was at least one shoot out (i.e., dozens of bullets flying) and one person killed where noone could be charged at all because both sides claimed SD/SYG and it couldn't be proven who fired first. In Florida, natch.

This is what really terrifies me - the confluence of the complete failure of any kind of gun control whatsoever with the simultaneous movement to add one more situation after another where it's a-ok to kill someone for the slightest of reasons. One or the other is bad enough - the two together are just a ghastly proposition.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Yeah. Plus right-wing paranoia that "Obama's gonna take all our guns", resulting in huge increases in handgun sales and concealed-carry permits.

So if Joe Biden and Ben Bernanke want to man up and do a replay of Burr/Hamilton, then they should take care of business in Florida.

One hopes Darwinism begins to come into play, and the most rabid loony tunes will remove themselves from the field.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

I wonder what will happen when two people claim Stand Your Ground on each other? Or does somebody have to call dibs on the ground?

The living one has dibs.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the trial of Micheal Dunn, also in Florida, also for killing a 17-year old unarmed Black teenager. I'm sure SYG will end up being the defense.

Maybe "interesting" isn't the best word to use when we're talking about kids being shot and killed.

Note to self: If I should travel to Florida again, add "buy bulletproof vest" to pre-trip checklist along with getting base tan and having oil changed.
