Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

There's at least one advantage to being Jewish this time of year. No tree attacks. (Nova is the type of cat who would launch herself at the tree to get the ornaments.) We just have to make sure to put the menorah where she can't get at it. Cat flambe is not a fun thing.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I'm trying to buy a new menorah. There are way too many options and I can't decide which one I like.

Just from the Jewish Museum gift shop, I can get a menorah made by artisans in Haiti out of recycled oil drums [link] , or a menorah that looks like a lion [link] or one that's really pretty but $200 [link] or one with a Statue of Liberty motif for $12,000 [link] or one made out of Lego [link] And that's just from one site. Too many choices! (I really like the lion one, but I'd be worried about wax dripping into the wire, and it would be nearly impossible to clean.)

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

The Haiti one is absolutely gorgeous. WANT.

I'm considering the Haiti one, but I think it's a little fussy for my taste. Too much different stuff going on at once.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Wow, the Statue of Liberty one is ridiculous on so many levels!

There's also a pink castle menorah, for little girls who simply must have everything in their lives in a pink princess theme. [link]

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Hil, I have the zebra version of that lion menorah and it's not very functional - the candle holders don't fit standard sized Hannukah candles so you either have to shave them down or use birthday candles which wobble dangerously.

Thanks. Good to know. I think I'm leaning toward the pretty but $200 one -- after looking at some of the others, $200 doesn't seem that expensive, and it is really pretty. I wish there was a Judaica store nearby where I could actually look at these and see what they look like in person.

This is also pretty. [link] But I think I might just use the menorah I have for this year, and get a nice new one for next year. I'll be in NJ over winter break, and I can go to some stores then.
