They don't go around killing beasties much bigger than they can fit in their mouth anyway. Grouse and waterfowl is about as big as they go. They're not pack animals, and their canines are pretty unimpressive. (Plant matter forms a large part of their diet, more than most dogs.)

(I have a co-worker who delights in correcting me every time I call a tomato a vegetable. And yet I persist.)
