"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

and what the hell were they doing drinking absinthe as shots?

Apparently I've been deficient in showing him NIN videos?

The status is NOT quo.

Much love to you and your family, Consuela.

Also, I've been chatting with Emmett's godmother, Karen, about it all. I mentioned that I was worried about how Laura's parents would view him (perhaps forbidding them from hanging out), and she wrote a short, sweet "character witness" type email to Laura's mom. Karen's always got his back.

Compassionately intolerant

I should say, I am in awe of the way things are being handled in Chez Smay. Emmett is a lucky pup.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

Yes- once my mother THOUGHT I had been drinking, but really I had the hiccups from eating dry bread too fast. Which really sounds like a lame excuse, actually, if here had been any other reason (smell, tipsyness) to think I had been drinking!

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Matilda and I just got back from church (where she hugged me and cried because she was worried about Emmett and his seasickness) and relieved Hec of Emmett-watching duty so he could drive back across the Bay to retrieve the tux. I can hear Emmett shuffling around between his room and the bathroom, but I think he's too abashed to come out and face his Pumpernickel. Poor stressed-out lambs, all of them.

Suela, I'm so very sorry. Wishing you, along with your sibs and father, all possible peace. You've been put through so many relentless wringers in the last year.

I'm so sorry, Consuela.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Not driving makes getting around a pain in the ass sometimes. A family friend died yesterday, and I'd like to go to her funeral, but it's in the middle of the workday, and will take me 45 minutes to get there via bus. Maybe I'll just take a cab there, and see if I can get a ride back.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

Two days away from getting my license back! I got dropped off to get a mani/pedi before our gala, but the walk back, in flip flops in over-moisturized feet, was not wise. A pedi with sore slightly blistered feet was also not wise. By the end of the night my feet were burning.

Thankfully I was crashing on-site in one of the tenant's apartments, and she gave me a ride home today, so I didn't have to deal with trekking to and from the train station at 1 and 2 in the morning to get to my own apartment with burning feet. She even stopped off at the liquor store, so now I have wine!

I owe her a billion favours, and I still want her apartment (I got to do the weekend watering without having to make a special trip!).

The transformer on the street blew up and we lost power. Thankfully, the mayor was at the event and pushed her weight around, so we got the power back on within 45 minutes. The good part of losing power at an event like this is that we had a nice handful of donors, trustees, bigwigs etc. assure us that we would get a permanent house generator even if they had to pay for it out of pocket.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I have achieved roulade! It's rather nice, though considerably more fragile than I expected. It's basically a souffle that's spread out in a jelly roll pan instead of baked in a souffle dish, and then rolled up around a filling, so fragility does make sense. I was picturing it as more robust, like an omelet, for no reason at all.

One piece eaten and seven more in the freezer so I can find out how it handles that. It's kind of fun to make, although in a very I-don't-want-to-do-this-too-often way, so I hope freezing works out.
