You guys, I'll go back and read, but I watched Taylor graduate tonight in Shriver Hall on JHU campus. And I totally cried. But not when she got her diploma, no. When it was announced that she was receiving a $6K scholarship given to only one student a year at Dunbar. It's the Thelma March Scholarship.

Thelma March achieved excellence in all that she did: a woman who did not succumb to circumstances but arose to her dreams. Since 1983, the Thelma March Scholarship Foundation has awarded deserving high school students of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School and Frederick Douglass High School with four-year scholarships to the colleges of their choice.
When the March family rep began the reveal, he said "When I met this young woman, I was simply blown away and knew the decision was made. I have not often met a *person* of her calibre, much less in someone so young." And then he started telling about her research in concussion tech and I just gasped. That's MY TAYLOR'S RESEARCH. When they announced her name and had her come up was was all teary and "THAT'S MY GIRL UP THERE!!!" And he told the CEO of Under Armor (who was the commencement speaker) that he absolutely must sit down and talk with her, and he would make that possible.
You guys, this might be the needed extra for her to go to Guilco.
YOU GUYS.
OK, now I'll go catch up.
Sara, that is awesome! That is fantastic news.
Oh, sara, that is so wonderful!
That is awesome, Sara.
I WISH I had gone out drinking this week!
And my mother: Recently, I was wearing tights, and she said to me, "I think those tights make your legs look better." Because of course the family story (based in truth) is that I don't have the Good Legs of her and her family, but the Bad Legs of the other side. I was like, "You know, I think my legs ARE better." NB: My legs are fine!
That's amazing, Sara! So wonderful.
Aw, sarameg, that's wonderful. Go, Taylor!
David, I'll try that one, thanks for link.
I just went out and bought ice cream. Second time this week. Hmmmm.
And I was right. msbelle pic is lovely. Awesome lips!
Steph, the other half of my problem is the dreaded smoking, which I do in the house, but with the window open. I want to have a window open half the time anyway, so it doesn't make any sense to cool off the apartment before bedtime.
My bedroom window is open pretty much all winter and most of the summer. And I flip directly from heat to A/C at the drop of a hat (and back, if I get chilly). Advantages of a small apartment in a really old building.
sarameg, that is fantastic! Congrats to Taylor!
Also, business travel is weird.
I have to go to London for a day or so. 8 hour + flights we are allowed to take business class. Which is whoa expensive.
So I checked what Economy Plus would be. Our preferred airline doesn't have that for overseas. And really, there are few airlines that do, so timing etc. was a lot less convenient. So there's that. But this is the thought that honest to god went through my head doing the comparison:
"It's only like a grand less, it's hardly worth it."
Holy crap, whut? Not like I'm paying for it, and most people wouldn't have looked for the alternative, but seriously.
I managed to save the same grand by extending my trip for another day. Anyone wanna get together in London June 14?
Anyone wanna get together in London June 14?
Don't tempt me like that.
