I would eat any of the cakes described, but if you told me you had chocolate cake, JZ, I'd be expecting A. Aimee, sorry to hear about your friend.

I will take the chocolate cake away from everyone who thinks chocolate cake needs chocolate icing--since most icings are too sweet for me anyway, the flavour is pretty irrelevant, and therefore much more for me.
I'm sorry to hear about your friend, Aims.
I get to keep my hypothetical cake, score!
It's gray and dismal today, maybe even raining, which means it's an excellent opportunity to pop some corn and try out my tabletop butter warmer.
Timelies all!
Sleepy cat is sleepy.
I'm sorry about your friend, Aims.
I am making rhubarb lemon bars (lemon bars but with stewed rhubarb as a base for the pudding topping, to which I added some lemon to brighten it up).
And now I have half a dozen extra egg whites. What do I do with them?
Yesterday Dylan was over at a friends' backyard with a bunch of other kids and got into a shouting match over whether or not fairies were real. (I'm not sure how it started exactly - they were all building a fairy house together, and I guess Dylan must have said something about playing pretend.) It ended like this:
Neighbor-girl: Faires ARE TOO REAL!
Dylan: No, they're not!
Neighbor-girl: YES, THEY ARE
Dylan: No, fairies are not real!
Neighbor-girl: WHAT DO YOU KNOW ANYWAY, YOU'RE JUST A BOY! <flounce>
Dylan: I DO TOO, I KNOW EVERYTHING!!
Today, we did wind up at Coney Island, but we took the subway. Biking there probably would have been fine, but biking back after 2 hours in the sun, no.

Egg whites supposedly freeze okay. I've got a bunch in the freezer, actually, but I have yet to defrost them and see how they hold up.
Aimee, I'm so sorry about your friend.

Meringues or scramble, is my general answer. Or, in real life, leave them in the fridge for a week and then throw them out.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. I may try meringues; I made some at Christmas last year and they came out pretty well. But I'll have to borrow my sister's frosting tube thing.
