I'm sorry, dad. You know I would never have tried to save River's life if I had known there was a dinner party at risk.

Congrats, Lee! Did I miss the precipitating event, or was it just time (I realize most people don't wait until the bitter end...)

Wacky swim. I decided to try going faster every 3rd lap. Which....well, old times, but then the next two laps were awful times (and I felt like I was gonna kill myself.) So there's that. Oof.

Got a call from Taylor; she's out in Phoenix at the INTEL Int'l Science Fair. (She was just shocked! SHOCKED! at how damn hot it is.) I've got to go pay off the deposit on her prom dress. Her employers didn't have her paycheck ready before she got on a plane, she comes back in Friday at 4, prom is at 8, there's no time to stop and pick up the paycheck AND get it in her account/cash it AND pick up the dress. For various reasons, her parents can't right now. She kept apologizing all over herself, but it is a no-brainer and the shop is close. I think I might refuse to let her pay me back in full...

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

My brother got engaged. Finally! He told me via text . . .

He's got a house with his girl. He's got our grandma's ring. He "borrowed" ten grand from our parents (or however much) to reset it. He's relapsed and drained her bank account and she stuck with him. My mother's been pushing for them to get married in the hopes that it'll cure him of his addiction, while I've secretly been all "Kate doesn't need another lock on her life with this dude". But I called him up, thinking of maybe ribbing him with "finally, punk" but ended up just telling him congratulations. He sounded so pleased and happy and surprised, like maybe he'd been expecting heckling. But you know what, if he asked, and she said yes, then that's great, and it's their choice, and they don't need second opinions on that. I think she's stupid for sticking with him, but if he hasn't pushed her away at this point, then she's probably the best gal for him.

I guess I need to start sending her birthday presents and cards.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Hooray, new car!

I have made my Mother's Day calls to my mother and grandmother. The news from home this week is that my father finally got a hearing aid and has since been putting WD-40 on all the hinges in the house. Also, my 13 yr old nephew is now 6'3", 150lbs, and is shaving.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

I feel bad that my mum spent the weekend cleaning out gram's house to ready it for sale. Or maybe it delighted her to spend the weekend throwing out that horrid womans crap (grams had a sickness, she would have been a shoe-in for sweeps week on Hoarders). Mum was happily giving her stuff away, letting the home-aid take whatever furniture she wanted, while my aunt kept insisting they didn't want anything and then objects suddenly disappearing, while my mum was all "Really, I don't care, take it!" because that's less stuff to haul for the "got junk" guys. Grams made beer can angels. A lot of them. She kept the cardboard squares that earrings come on.

I actually feel kind of sick that Gram's kids are ransacking her shit, but she's also definitely at the stage of mental incapacity where she can't make legal decisions. And for all that she's not happy to be in the "hotel for old people", she wasn't happy about Bernice the home-aid, and she got used to that pretty quick (to the point that losing Bernice now is one of the points of contention with her).

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

What made the passat your one true car?

Mostly the passatness, but honestly, the thought that if I did this now, I don't have to deal with any more car shopping.

Did I miss the precipitating event, or was it just time (I realize most people don't wait until the bitter end...)

It was time, and Having a four door will be easier with the dog, and I AM INSANE

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Passat schmassat... enough with the tedious details; what color is it?

Because books.

It's Opera Red! She called me FROM THE CAR (nearly scaring me death) and that's the first thing I asked, too!

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

Glad for you, Lee.

I submitted my NBPTS renewal portfolio today. It's not due until the 31st, but I had to get it done. I started it in earnest last Monday and then I was like FINISH THIS NOW. I was worried and angsty about the videos, but K helped me transfer them. I did the writing, she helped with the revision and now all of those anxiety dreams about this? FINISHED.

And I also finished a work thing on Friday.

So, I have two more big things to figure out then I can relax.

I'm not enjoying the 100 degree weather, though.
