Buffy: He ran away, right? Giles: Sort of, more. turned and swept out majestically, I suppose. Said I didn't concern him. Buffy: So a mythic triumph over a completely indifferent foe? Giles: Well, I'm not dead or unconscious, so I say bravo for me.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Oh, man, speaking of social media, I just finally twigged to what my students are doing. They all have these really clean cut facebook profiles, that I think they set up through the school. With, like, their official school photo as the photo. Only they never use them, but they're still active and look active. But they all have other profiles, which are the ones I've friended. With different names. And those are the ones with all the real deal stuff going on that I'm always, "filter me!" about.

But I finally looked at their friendslist, and they are using the other profile as the filter entirely. ALL the adults and staff members are friended under the old profiles.

Because I kept thinking to myself, man, since the (boarding) school is so strict, I can't believe that they're not responding to some of the stuff going on in the kids' lives that they post on facebook. Or just to the sheer volume of posting. But they're not seeing it. They're seeing a few edited posts once every couple of weeks, and so when they hear the kids talk about facebook, that's what they think they're talking about.

I am literally the only adult and non-Native person on a couple of those lists. I mean, I should be pleased that they trust me enough to friend me on their "real" profiles.

But they didn't tell me they were doing that, so I may have just outed them when I tagged them in their cigar box guitar posts! Oops.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Happy female parent day! However you define female and however you define parenting, have an amazing day.

I need to work out how to phrase that better before I talk to my mother. She's not as in to self-defining as I am. Oops.

Liese, that's a weird space, isn't it? You are an adult and technically an outsider, and you see what they're not showing to people who are properly either of the above--and you have to work out how not to a) break trust b) contradict your own principles and concerns. Because sometimes you're adult for a good reason. Well, be flattered...not even that. You earned this. Feel good about that. It's not lightly given.

Is it fitting revenge that I'm trying to convert Nurse W. Woo to Supernatural? She loves the S7 Leviathan storyline, not least of all because I know how to phrase it for her, but the key thing is she likes it because she thinks it's the truth. I wish I could work out a) what the crowning payoff should be and b) how to be there to see it.

Put in your life what you want in your life.

Sage!

Now I need to work out a Norman Reedus picture for my sister. I don't like using the grid method to reproduce likenesses, because I haven't worked out how to keep my style in the picture, but I've not been able to get a good likeness of him freehand yet, so...

Right! Time to call my female parent. I never did draw for her, so maybe I'll ask her what she'd like. Poor sis has been travelling so hard she hasn't done anything for Mum. But it will be worked out, even if it's hugs and a meal out. Because that's still a win

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Do we have a login at the New York Times? I know we used to, but it doesn't work anymore.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Pretty sure the old login expired when it stopped being free.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

It sounds like Fringe would be a perfect fit for her. She'd be side-eyeing bald guys in suits in no time.

Danger is my middle name, only I spell it R. u. t. h. - Tina Belcher.

Happy female parent day!

I like this!

Yes--she also believes the X Files is true, so Fringe would be a nice dose of hysteria. Telling her that there is a small bunch of people fighting both Hell and the Heaven of an absent god in order to ensure we still have free will--and that sometimes the evil is performed by people at the head of Big Pharma who are drugging us into compliance PERFECT. Introducing the alternate dimensions/timelines of Fringe sounds like a pretty simple next step.

Things I don't want to hear from best friends: "I've been hanging with Barrowman in Germany..." It's not mature to hate him, but...OMG, what else am I supposed to do? Be happy?

I guess some people do that, but I'm not so good.

::weeps uncontrollably::

information libertarian

About 2 weeks back in Tech, le nubian gave me a useful link for AdBlock tinkering that allows you to read the Times for free. It was easy to install and works like a charm (Thank you, le nubian!)

Um. That's...just not fair. Really.

Um, that's not what I need anyway. I am apparently still asleep. Never mind.
