Just before bed, Franny asked me to check her head for lice. Bingo! So we had to treat her head and strip all the sheets off the beds. Kids got to sleep an hour late, which isn't good.
I gave every head a thorough combing. Luckily no one else had it. Shockingly lucky. Not sure how we dodged that one, esp me, but I'll take it. Isaac and Cody dodged it by dint of never brushing their hair. Come to think of it, don't think Franny brushes that often either. Even so, I'm quarantining all the brushes in the front bathroom for the next few weeks.
Lice are a PITA.
I am so glad I have never had lice! My dog had horrible fleas when I was a kid (we could see them crawling on her) and that was impossible to get rid of.
I was just reading a 1960 college yearbook, and the page heading for fraternities is:
"Fraternities....gay socialism and cool conformity"
which is oddly true, but I cannot stop laughing- especially the socialism part!
We fight lice by encouraging dirty hair in our kids. Casper's old enough that her hair starts to look greasy after about 4-5 days without a wash, though, so now we make her wash it twice a week. (Given the choice, my children would never bathe.)
how does not brushing or washing fight lice?
In better news - an NBA player has come out. Jason Collins [link]
I don't know why I thought I could read that at my desk and not cry. I am
so
happy. So excited and proud, and that's a great interview and an amazingly well spoken guy (it shouldn't
have
to be a well spoken guy who comes out first, but sure doesn't hurt). My sister will be beside herself.
I cried at my desk. I am so happy for him.
That's a really great essay.

The first is a matter of not spreading it. As a family, we tend to use the same brushes, so if one person brushes their hair when they have lice, the lice and nits can get on the brush, and then they get transferred to the next head.
I am in favor of brushing one's hair, just FTR.
The second is more anecdotal than proven theory, but the theory is that lice like a clean head. If you are trying to avoid it, I'd go with a bun or braids rather than relying on dirty locks to keep them away.

He does really come across as genuine, smart, and well spoken. Good for him! That takes courage man, he has no idea really what the upshot will be from this. Hope it's all good.
Apparently a date for my change over to the new job has been set, but THEY WILL NOT TELL ME!
Ugh. I will wait until 1 to hear from HR, then I call them. The meeting where this was discussed was over at 11.
