Hopefully good employment news will continue for msbelle?
I hope so! I got some good employment news: I have a tentative offer from the old friend I spoke with today.
He's the manager of a group at a mid-sized firm (360 employees), which is employee-owned (I like that). Offices in SF, Oakland, Petaluma, Portland. Wants me to come work for him and manage projects. They seem to have lots of work, their focus is on quality rather than low price, they have an actual marketing staff, in-house legal review, and a really nice set of offices in SF. Yearly bonuses!
AND I'm having lunch next Friday with the friend I had lunch with yesterday, and two of the senior managers at her firm. They like what she said about me, and want to meet. Which is not the same as an offer, but is still promising. That's a totally different place: major multi-national firm with 50,000 employees, publicly traded, lots of military work. The up side would be that they have compressed work schedules, and they do federal work (which I prefer to state work). Bonuses aren't that big, apparently.
So I'm going to sit and think on these. I like the idea of the small firm, but there are definitely advantages to working in a well-run large place, too. And the big firm would certainly be interested in my connections here, since they're one of our contractors.
No offers yet, but people are interested in me & my skills! Yay!
