Yay, don't turn on the work laptop!
I think you could totally alternate between veg & ALL and have a pretty good solo day.
I need to kick some productivity ass today. The spring cleaning is going pretty well, but I really need to get some shit knocked out today.
Good luck, Gud!
Tommyrot, the location of that place looks fine: very convenient to transit and plenty of touristy things to do. I don't know anything about it as a hostel, per se.
Me, I had drinks with another former coworker, who gave me some good data on one of the firms I'm talking to (unexpected layoffs followed by hiring is not a good sign of an ability to manage capacity), and was just nice to catch up. Noontime chat today with a friend at the just-referenced firm. Lunch tomorrow with another friend who works for the city. Oy, I'm exhausted.
Tommy, last year I stayed at the Carl. It has virtually no amenities, but it's clean, it's cheap, it's just off the Muni N Judah line, which I took a lot.
Just make sure you don't try to get around town on the day of the Bay to Breakers "race".
You're doing great, Suela. Keep at it.
Good luck, Gud!
$94/night in SF sounds cheap to me, even with a shared bathroom, but I don't really know how SF hotel pricing goes. (In Manhattan, there's basically Expensive and Shitty, without much in-between.)
Tommy, last year I stayed at the Carl.
What's the Carl? The hostel I linked to?
The Carl Hotel, on Carl Street about two blocks from Haight Street, Cole Valley and GG Park, not to mention right on the N line so pretty convenient to downtown. Dirt cheap but clean.
I don't know that hostel at all, but it looks excellent. You might also want to give Hotwire or something similar a try; I'm pretty sure I have booked nicer-than-hostel rooms for about the same price you're being quoted now that way.
I got a very small room with a very small, but private, bathroom, for $89 a night. I was kind of restricted because I don't do well on stairs - there's one small section that has minimal stairs, the others are all up a steep full flight of steps. But still - $89 struck me as a major bargain (I checked the place we'd had the F2F .. and it was something like $300 a night).
Thanks, JZ. The Carl looks cool, but so far I don't see prices. Anyway, I'll talk to Monica tonight so we can pick a place.
eta: Ooh, Toddson has the price.
