Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

So it's been snowing like a mofo for the last 45 minutes here in Highland Park. What's it doing in Chicago? Still rain there?

Because books.

Maybe pictures of unlikely animal friends will help?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yeah, I'm going to this reception tomorrow basically to network. I'm not great at that stuff--like a lot of American women, I'm not trained to puff myself up--but I do like talking about my job.

I don't think networking is about puffing yourself up AT ALL. I think it's about meeting other people with similar (professional) interests and finding some you like.

information libertarian

I wish I could network. I am very shy with people I don't know.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

I'm now editing SEO content ... about writing SEO content. I'm all meta'd out.

Heh.

YAY Nillybaby! That is most excellent news! Can't wait to see pictures.

And FTR, I love sopranos! The sopranos in my choir are really lovely people. I just also love altos, and sometimes they are underappreciated (though clearly not around here!). Alto parts can occasionally be really boring, which doesn't help. A song we're currently working on is just about the most boring part I've ever sung:

E D C C
C C C C
E D C C
C C C C
E D C C
C C C C
C C C C
C C C C

It's pretty ridiculous.

In other news, I just had the most delicious salad from a local cafe: roasted brussels sprouts, avocado, fingerling potatoes, golden beets, almonds, feta. SO GOOD. I need to make this at home and eat it for lunch every day from now on.

Punishingly Intricate

Huh and I just heard some news that may make the project I'm on less frustrating soon. Potentially.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

I feel like altos get the better end of the deal, because it seems like they can naturally sing harmony. In order for me to sing harmony I have to learn and memorize it, and I still get drawn to the melody. The .02 times I sang harmony as a soprano, it seemed like it was just the same high note over and over.

I wish I could network. I am very shy with people I don't know.
I have this problem too, unless I am angry about something, and then I will say something (say in a meeting). Therefore, people know me as an angry person, I think.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Networking is the same thing geeks do at conventions for fun. It's just hanging out with people who like the same things you do and talking about what you like. If what you like is business, you call it networking. If what you like is science fiction, you call it con-hopping. Like, I went to a convention, and a guy who thought I was cute bought me a drink, and then I met his friend who did a 'zine, and he liked a piece I wrote so he published it, and at the next con I met some of his friends who also liked what I wrote, and suddenly I was having a beer with Stephen King. You never know where you'll get to just because of someone you met and made a good impression on.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Yeah, I don't think I've puffed myself up as part of networking, or been puffed at. if I was going to seal the deal at this training session I would need business cards, since I'm not at a LinkedIn place with any of them yet. but that's the end step of most of it these days. I do that with vendors and consultants, which are more directly related to my gig.
