A neighbor child whom I'd sat for and her friend went missing on vacation when they were 15. Never found.
H's coworker and his family came back from a weekend at the beach to find their 20 year old's car on the side of the road, door open. He was found dead months later.
As a parent (this is like playing would you rather be deaf or blind), I think shot in the head is better than weeks or forever of wondering.
