Illyria: We cling to what is gone. Is there anything in this life but grief? Wesley: There's love. There's hope...for some. There's hope that you'll find something worthy...that your life will lead you to some joy...that after everything...you can still be surprised. Illyria: Is that enough? Is that enough to live on?

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Thanks guys, these are good. (I wish we could use awards acceptance speeches, but we don't own the rights.)

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

the big violation of core values firings

Wait--did you mention this reason before? What counts for this? This is really kind of scary...

My sister forwarded me a NYT article on Obama disappointment, and I ripped apart the author's connection between the premise and conclusion, and now I feel bad because she really liked the writing. Ah, well. That's what older siblings are for--to remind you there's no Santa.

Our wings are not tired.

How about the speech Nelson Mandela gave at the beginning of his trial in 1964 where he said he was prepared to die?

or LBJ when signing the Civil Rights Bill? But I can't recall if that was considered scripted.

ita - I am pretty sure it was racial descrimination. There is a possibility is was gender descrimination or harrassment. Either way - it was a case or one person doing it, and a chain of people up knowing about it and doing nothing, so the whole lot got fired.

Oh, well DAMN. That's housecleaning that would make Dorner...no, it's WAY too soon to finish that sentence.

But still, if they are taking care of something that was hidden or hushed up, then that's good, although still scary.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Does a gesture count as speech? What about the Black Power salute at the 1968 Olympics?

ita, your post on normalizing hearing voices in your head reminded me of a report I once heard on the evangelical movement. They interviewed a religious studies professor about the--I don't know if I should call it teaching or training--how one learns to have a personal connection with God. Basically the training is to imagine a conversation in your head where you supply both voices--yours and God's--and eventually it becomes easier and easier to hear God's voice as coming from outside you. But that would certainly be a case where hearing voices is considered normal.

Also I misread the map. It seems I live in the state of Los Angeles. Still less desirable than living in California, but much preferable to Temecula.

Oh, Canada! (please sing that to the proper melody)
