I hate when you experience something, and the stress it causes is so immediate that it has a physical manifestation. T-P's has continued doing great work- it was lauded (and awarded, I believe) for its post-Katrina coverage and just wrapped up an amazing in-depth series about the prison system in Louisiana. It's respected (and read) by the community.

That's really heartbreaking, Nora. I understand the reasons for the decline of newspapers, but a major city without a daily paper just seems wrong. Especially if a large percentage of that city isn't going to have access to web news.

Jesus. I was sure the poster was pulling the number from their ass (because it seemed *so* unsustainable), but for this year, it's true: soldier suicides are one per day in 2012. It is an uptick, but the original numbers were still larger than I was wrapping my head around. I mean, that's active duty.
