We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

Oh, here's some good news (I guess?): the 9th Circuit decided not to rehear en banc the Prop 8 decision. [link]

That means the only way the lower court ruling can be challenged is by taking it to the Supreme Court. Of course, with this slate of Justices, I don't have a good feeling about this.

Maybe we'll get lucky and they won't grant certiorari?

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

Cash, much -ma for you and your family.

ita !, where does it say that Ita Moon is "probably a shout-out." I'll set 'em straight!

Zen, the way she pronounced it was Bala-sue-bra-MAHN-e-an.

That article about the man in the children's section...my little sister worked for Waldenbooks/Borders for 20 years. They would keep an eye on any person acting suspiciously but there's no way they would have tossed out for simply being there.

I guess by their light, all the times my dad or my DH was in the children's section, they should have been ejected from the store...

That pisses me off -- men aren't allowed to look at children's books? To buy for a child, or perhaps to search for a childhood fave? And what about male teachers or day-care providers who are looking for books for their students? I want more context for this story! Ridic.

and tommy, interesting link. i guess by the reviewers lighhts, I am a man-hating lesbian, because I have frequented lesbian bars...and even danced bosom-to-bosom with other women! SHOCKING! Guess I'd better drop the DH and date meara or any of the other lovely lesbian/bi women in my life...

No point in contacting insurance. I would be out of pocket for it anyway. Fairly high deductible on it given the vintage.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I'm afraid I don't have much truck with Jason's apology. Because I simply cannot imagine how "gay" as a pejorative made its way into the vocabulary of a worldly man over fifty, and he even goes so far as to use it.

Obviously his apology is more well thought out and expressed that what you're going to get from the average 17 year old you'd chastise for doing the same thing. Bully for him, he's eloquent. But I can barely give the teenager a pass for not paying attention to how slurs are rooted, so I totally cannot for a man of his age.

How did it get into his lexicon in the first place?

Never mind the "I have gay friends and *they're* not offended" angle, because that's totally irrelevant. I mean...impressive. No, I guess I did mean irrelevant.

If it took that much legwork and consultation to work out it's a bad thing, I shudder to think what other epithets are lurking, unexamined, in the dark recesses of his brain.

Unrelatedly--wow, there are sure a lot of "ita moon" references that don't have to do with me (it's one of my backup user IDs). Like, people are using it as their nym. Uh, no you can't. Give that back. I'm not done with it yet...

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Well, that's a good thing.

I am ignoring Jason Alexander's existence.
