Celebrating is kind of exhausting in all respects, even when it's good!
So, apparently Richard Dawson's kissing of all the ladies on Family Feud was a stand against racism:
Television executives at times tried to get Mr. Dawson to stop the kissing, he said. Some viewers complained when he pecked the cheeks of women of different races.
Mr. Dawson said he actively fought any discrimination in this regard.
“It’s very important to me that on ‘Family Feud’ I could kiss all people,” he said in a 2010 interview for the Archive of American Television. “It sounds crazy, but when I first came here Petula Clark was on a show with Nat King Cole, and he kissed her on the cheek, and 81 stations in the South canceled him. I kissed black women daily and nightly on “Family Feud” for 11 years, and the world didn’t come to an end, did it?”
So, Camp Mommy starts this week, and for the first theme the children have chosen Superheroes. Ideas for artistic/educational/sporty projects we can do around our theme welcomed.
Happy Birthday Dana!
Happy Ellie Day, Stephanie!
Geez. Now I'm kind of retroactively liking Richard Dawson quite a bit. Poking around, it just sounds like he was a basically decent guy -- he had two sons with his first wife, but she checked out of their lives, never saw them, and eventually wrote them out of her will; seeing that both of them live in LA and work as game show producers with their father's and other production companies, it sounds like he must have stepped up for them. Which shouldn't be that notable, just basic what-a-parent-is-supposed-to-do decency, but couldn't have been that common for a single dad in early 60's LA.
Yeah I'm with JZ. I never knew the kissing was him taking a stand. Awesome.
Wonder Woman rodeo with yellow rope and stuffed animals?
Richard Dawson was all kinds of awesome sounds like. I always enjoyed him. I mean he's no Charles Nelson Riley or Paul Lynde who are my all-time favorite Game Show people.
Today is Busy McBusy. I am already knee deep in it and I got in early today. Hate swamped Mondays. Silver lining is that annoying co-worker is out all week.
I confess that I was totally creeped out by Richard Dawson as a child, with all the kissing. Ew.

Ha! And then you can learn about the Amazons. And spin around outside for exercise! And frost cookies blue with white stars!
Actually, I bet there is a day's worth of stuff on any character, with the history and background and theme food and whatnot.
Happy Birthday Dana!
