Survey question: If you have a 62 page chapter of a German book that was never published in English, would you assume that running an OCRed pdf file through Google translate would work well enough to get you a translation you could submit to a government agency?
Natter 70: Hookers and Blow
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Well, there are a lot of medical procedures that actually work that elicit a visceral "eww" reaction. Like maggots to clean wounds, or leeches to help remove excess blood pooling in transplanted limbs and fingers. And fecal transplants. Anyone else heard of that one?
Right? But then again, if it works for other autoimmune disorders? That'd be something.
Exactly!
Hey, now leeches serve a valid medical purpose! Just not usually blood letting per se.
The one time I mentioned this hookworm/leeches/laudanum idea to my (very awesome) naturopath MD, she snorted and said, "Don't even. I know you just want the laudanum. Shut the fuck up, and take your Xanax 'script."
Lee,
is the German technical? If it isn't particularly technical, I would say "yes" - provisionally.
Yep, very technical.
eta: I am also not convinced that would make a difference, because there are printing issues with that large a document.
I'll pass on the hookworms and stick with eating local honey, which is a lot cheaper than the desensitization shots I used to get.
stick with eating local honey
That's right! I have a sound medical reason to eat spoonfuls of honey straight from the jar! BRB, I have to go channel my inner Winnie the Pooh.
I thought the honey thing was recently debunked?
And fecal transplants. Anyone else heard of that one?
raises hand
What? I admit I have a morbid fascination with that kind of thing.
I thought the honey thing was recently debunked?
Nooooooo!
Clings to jar of local honey
