OMG. I just suddenly had the urge to see CalGal schooling Nick Denton on running sites and making money. That would be hysterical.
Yes, yes it would.
And congrats from me!
msbelle, I'm afraid that's a little too much of a fixer-upper... The helipad isn't even functional!
What, you mean, like the sacrifices you make in
not taking a salary
to run a non-profit? Seriously, people like you get paid a lot of money to do what you do for us for free. And furthermore, you built it from scratch up, you're not just maintaining it. Core code, people!
Wait, ita's not supposed to be drawing a salary? OH.
I just have forever wanted to live on one of those and have a giant satellite dish and NOT DEAL WITH ANYONE!
Except all the tourists, and the local planning commission, and maintain the boat, and keep the generator running, and remember to have your clothes on when the local CG team comes to make sure the light is still working properly...
ok, not a lighthouse, but a drilling platform.
She should be, dammit, and so should Tom.
(Everyone knows I'm just kidding, and all of your donations go straight to the hosting fees, right? Phew.)
Which reminds me, yesterday was payday, I need to get my donation in.
I admit the lighthouses are prettier, but they're a MAJOR PAIN to maintain, since even if you get them for, say, $10K, you still have to bring them up to code, and the standards are pretty strict. A number of people have won those auctions and then backed out when they realized how much they would have to spend on them. And it's not as though they're easy to get to--the ones being auctioned off are usually out in the water, so you need a boat to get access.
inaccessible works nicely with my hermit plan with GIANT SATELLITE DISH. but no tourists and no responsibilities. just drilling platform, boat, lots of topsoit to make container gardens and a PO box at the nearest mainland town. HEAVEN!!!
