Overwhelming? How much more than whelming would that be exactly?

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

And how they are defined and how they are handled varies by state.

And it sucks that you and I know this first-hand.

I should do something about that, as well.

As soon as we finish up with the heavy lifting of Rob's estate (which could take 6-9 months to completely wind down), I will be preparing my will. I've got retirement funds and life insurance, plus my share of the family business to worry about, and I want to avoid any tax issues for those that inherit. A revocable trust seems to be in my future.

it seems worthwhile to save my mother (god forbid)/other heirs the headache of dealing with it.

You can name anyone as your Personal Representative in your will. It doesn't have to be your closest living relative. I have a non-family member/non-friend (probably an attorney) in mind for mine. This way, the family doesn't have to deal with grief as well as legal bullshit at the same time.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

So you know how sometimes you can be sitting at work minding your own business and suddenly get a work call that leaves you kind of gobsmacked and aware that things might be about to get very very messy and that's even before the other person starts crying?

Yeah, it's been one of those days.

Ugh, I'm sorry, Lee. I hope you're not caught in the fallout zone.

I need to do a will so I can leave my cats to my nephew! (Evil cackle.) He hates cats. But as the nephew of three women without dependents, he will probably make out like a bandit.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Gary and I made our wills a couple of years ago. Just seemed like the right time to do it.(I don't remember the wording, so I don't know if we need to update to include my niece, or if we just said "the children of X")

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Oh, dear, Lee. ~not-messy-ma.

I'm pretty sure the fall out zone is primarily going to be in the SF office, rather than here, even though it may well impact me tangentially.

Hugs my less crazy satellite office tight.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

Yeah, Pete and I need to write up wills. I'm pretty sure Dad (now) has a will, but I should check. I know that he has a pre-paid cremation plan, because he gave me the card for it while saying "I don't plan on you needing to use this for the next 50 years or so, but just in case ..."

And it sucks that you and I know this first-hand.

I wish you didn't.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Yeah, my dad bought a discount funeral plan years ago, but I think his will is actually on my dead laptop. Another thing to get on.
